Descrição do produto

In the far future, humanity settles the stars, bioengineering its descendants to survive in a harsh universe. This is the third book in the science fiction series, The Backworlds. A galactic adventure.

To realize his dream, to build Pardeep Station into a top world, a destination all Backworlders want to come to, Craze makes the best use of a weapon left behind by the Foreworlders. The dastardly technology helps him to forge advantageous trades, which improves his situation on the dusty moon.

Only days away from the grand opening of his shiny new tavern, the starway opens, bringing in a loony Backworlder intent on mucking up Craze’s carefully laid plans. Gaunt and trembling, she claims her spaceship is possessed. She also has a connection to the underworld that shakes loose the dark past of one of Craze’s closest friends. It all threatens to end his prosperity before it begins.

Meanwhile off world, Captain Talos works desperately to outwit the mercenary Jixes and lure them away from Pardeep Station’s budding prospects. With all the trading done on Pardeep’s behalf, the mind-control weapon Talos is using wears thin, and his next move may be his last.

Will it end in boom or dust?

Sobre o Autor

M. Pax is author of the sci-fi series, The Backworlds, and the new adult science fiction fantasy The Renaissance of Hetty Locklear. A Browncoat and SG fan, she's also slightly obsessed with Jane Austen. In the summers she docents as a star guide at Pine Mountain Observatory where the other astronomers now believe she has the most extensive collection of moon photos in existence. No fear, there will be more next summer. She lives in stunning Central Oregon with the Husband Unit and two lovely, spoiled cats.

Craze is the name of a Verkinn barkeep on the almost forgotten planet called Pardeep. Pardeep has a distinction in that it is directly adjacent to a Lepper, or stargate in space, which you would think could stimulate business. Well it needs a little help. The planetlord is a whack-a-mole character named Pauder who is always in full PTSD mode with a bazooka. Pauder is not sure that he wants Craze dream of successful business to succeed if it will mean more people coming to his world.
The cast from the first 2 books is back: Meelo the Fo’Wo snitcher, Dactyl the squat ex-lawman, Rainly the sort of android woman and several others. No less than three subplots are occurring in this addtion to the Backworlds series. Something that I love in world building is when humans are genetically altered to survive an environment rather than a planet terra-formed. The author does not disappoint in this area or many others. I’m glad to see that the characters are actually growing.
There is a new Verkinn female introduced in this work, Kesaere, who may be a bit of a villain but I hope to see more of her character in future works. She might be just what Craze needs. I had fun in this one, especially when I figured out what happened to the Jixes. I hate Jixes. Also, with all this flitting about I think it is time to flesh out how ships like the Sequi and the Olvis actually get around and have some encounters in space. Anyway, four out of five satisfaction points for this one.

5.0 de 5 estrelas Sci-Fi with Heart, Humor and Imagination 4 de agosto de 2013
Por Fiction Fox - Publicada na Amazon.com

In Boomtown Craze, Craze has grown from being a Candide-esque innocent to a lovable, but sharp realist. Plenty of bad things still happen to him: his tavern tables get delivered in all the wrong colors, his obnoxious, user family arrives just as he is finally making it big in the tourist trade; yet Craze has learned how to play hard. He has grown quite suave with women. For instance, he's able to make a strategic decision to forgo seducing the young lady of his choice in order to flatter and charm that girl's mother, who has planetary power and a massive crop of Wonder Ricklets, a sort of small bovine type herd that he wants in on. I enjoyed the scenes where we get glimpses of his sexual charm. One of the women is a Sprinkler, a blue-hued race that sloughs off mist and a continual drizzle that, on this dry and dusty moon of Pardeep definitely has its benefits!
I love Pax's inventive side: the way the characters' hair curls and swirls and has its very own life; the beautiful yet toxic plants of Photwit and the nanite-laced chocolates that one can control a subject's mind with when offered as a treat. M Pax has true imagination and humor, and the prose just keeps getting better and better. I'm a fan.

Take a million world's and design a human to take advantage of all the diverse biosphere. Then have a war which tosses all these diverse types of humans around the galaxy. They look for a home. A few very different people find friendship and a planet to call home, with plenty of bothersome troubles. This book is a fun read about how they face their different others in different ways and how the bothers deepen their friendship.

The author told this story from a lot of different perspectives. It was kind of cool and probably would have helped out, if at the end I knew the characters better. This whole book could have happened in a few chapters of the next book for all the good it did. Also, the confiscated cargo and influx of business didn't come across as believable even after the "extra help" they had. I probably won't keep on reading the series.
