Excellent book for those who are starting case studies.

The only critic is that the pages' numbers appear to be wrong. I don't know if it is because the pages of the paper book or it is an issue.

5.0 de 5 estrelas Do you want to nail your interview? Read. This. Now. 28 de abril de 2015
Por Steven - Publicada na Amazon.com
Formato: Capa comum Compra verificada
Case Interview Secrets is practical, clear, and concise. It delivers just what you need to know to nail a case interview. It worked for me and I got the job.

Here's how the book helped me. I came across this book just 24 hours before my case interview. I worked through the book and zeroed in on sections I thought were most important for me. I focused most on the frameworks that Victor Cheng presents. I learned the frameworks and created practice scenarios using situations I had experienced.

At the end of my preparation I felt very confident that I could lead a case interview conversation. And that is what mattered most. Confidence. Because, of course, in the interview, none of the frameworks exactly applied. But my mind was prepared to think in terms of frameworks. That was really helpful. When I arrived at the interview, I was ready to go to the white board and lead a discussion knowing I had frameworks to draw on.

But the book is much more than a set of frameworks. The book also explains how to structure your case discussion. There is specific guidance for creating an opening, analysis, and closing for your case. This gives you a great view of how to create a discussion on-the-fly, which is what you have to do in a case interview.

This book delivers the content, and sets your frame of mind, so that you can confidently enter a case interview.

5.0 de 5 estrelas The one single book you cannot do without in preparing for case interviewing 24 de dezembro de 2016
Por IZ - Publicada na Amazon.com
Formato: eBook Kindle Compra verificada
There are a lot of points made by other reviewers, praising the qualities of this book and its author - and I agree with what's been said so far, no need top repeat it.

All I want to add is that, comparing Case Interview Secrets to other books about case interview preparation, I found it to provide the most structured, clearly enunciated and solid approach to case interviewing. Sure, it does not include case material; the author is aware you can find those in many other books available. Instead, he insists on the crucial details that help you build the right mindset and habits, and most of all, those that help you build a consistent, logical and focused method for solving cases. Why? Because Victor Cheng is talking to you from the perspective of an actual, experienced consultant, and a seasoned interviewer, and helps you understand what consulting firms are looking for in you. That's a tremendously valuable perspective.

This book alone won't be enough for your case interview preparation, but it's the one single book, in my view, you cannot do without.

3.0 de 5 estrelas A good starting point, not a definite guide: lacks examples and practice cases. 16 de março de 2017
Por Amazon Customer - Publicada na Amazon.com

I probably had bigger expectations of this book. It is a good product, but it was a great disappointment that the rest of the content (cases, for instance) are located in the author's blog as a paid service.
The book itself is good, and it provides you what it promises: a good starting point in structuring your answers for job interviews in the major consulting management's firms. Though, it lack of practice cases, and it is self-referenced all the time (things like: "check my blog for further information", and then you have to pay extra for it.). The main claim of this book is practice at least 100 hours, but it does not provide cases to practice in the first place.
Other than that, I think it is a good starting point. I'm trying Cosentino's book now.

5.0 de 5 estrelas Case Interview Secrets > Case In Point 3 de janeiro de 2017
Por Amazon Customer - Publicada na Amazon.com

I highly recommend purchasing this book. Victor does a great job at conveying his recommended approach to solving cases regardless of the business situation. I first purchased Case In Point, another popular case interview book and thought it was great as well, though after purchasing Case Interview Secrets. I wish I had only purchased the latter. Case Interview Secrets provides a simple yet thorough process to think like a consultant or business analyst should. Once again, I highly recommend this book.

5.0 de 5 estrelas Must-have guide for consulting interviews 23 de novembro de 2012
Por Michael J Harris - Publicada na Amazon.com
Formato: Capa comum Compra verificada
Victor Cheng heavily touts his customers' results on his website. After reading this book and using his other material, I can see why.

Cheng is a former McKinsey associate who has a deep understanding of the case interview process and exactly what interviewers are looking for. He has broken down the components of the interview process as follows: Quantitative assessments, fundamentals, frameworks, candidate-led cases, variations on the candidate-led case, and getting the offer. Unlike Cosentino's "Case in Point," there are only a few frameworks to remember. These frameworks are more flexible than Cosentino's and rely more on the candidate's ability to think and analyze rather than the candidate's ability to memorize a large number of more rigid frameworks.

On a personal note, using the tools in this book helped me ace the interview process in a professional field other than consulting. Cheng's suggestion that the candidate practice sharing their thought process in a clear, confident, and concise way is key in demonstrating the candidate's potential value to a firm.
