Descrição do produto

What if depression is a gift and not suffering? Are you stuck with a painful experience and can't let go?

At the age of 31, Yong Kang Chan was left with no job, no income and most important of all, no identity. He thought having a job in an animation studio would lead him to the right career path. But an unexpected turn of shocking events led him to depression.

Those two months of darkness was scary. He couldn't cope with the emotional pain and even contemplated dying. However, he soon realized depression was a spiritual gift and embraced it. He believed he had depression for a reason.

“I experienced depression so I could write about it and share the lessons I learned.”

Depression had taught him important lessons about being a highly sensitive person (HSP). While overcoming depression, he learned how to:

  • Let go of the past and emotional pain
  • Embrace all feelings
  • Reconcile between anger and empathy
  • Deal with anger
  • Love and accept oneself
  • Trust one’s intuition
  • Acknowledge shame and be vulnerable
  • Let go of wanting approval

Above all, Yong Kang found his identity as a writer.

The best way to accept a gift is to accept and be thankful. Are you ready to accept this gift?

I was able to relate very well to the experience of depression expressed in this memoir. I'm working on my own experiences right now and found the inner dialogue, expressed with vulnerability, to be inspiring. Men absolutely should be allowed to cry and should be praised for having the courage to do so. It's healthy for them and for everyone around them who is affected by their emotional health.

Much love to you, brother! All the best.

Like many people, the word "depression" makes me uneasy. This book helped me because I watched a man confront and work through his own depression. It is an honest story of a great personal struggle and, more importantly, a great victory. Personally, I feel more balanced, strengthened, and encouraged for having read this book.

5.0 de 5 estrelas The Emotional Gift - A Necessary Read 30 de março de 2016
Por Vicki Nelson - Publicada na Amazon.com

I didn't know what to expect when I began reading this book. I was a little nervous, maybe because I knew it dealt with depression, and depression is often a word no one wants to hear or deal with. Yong Kang Chan's writing completely put me at ease. He is vulnerable, raw, and honest. He leads the reader along his own journey of depression, the up and down moments, and the trials and errors he experienced. But the book is about more than depression. It a journey into the soul. It is a longing for a life of deepest dreams and desires. There are many great phrases in this book, including, "I believe I experienced depression so I could write about it and share the lessons I learned." Amazing. He's not even asking for an ounce of pity, nor does he express regret. Near the end he says, "I had passed the test when I chose life over death." And that's when I wanted to cry. I think everyone can relate to something in this book - feelings of unworthiness, guilt, anger, shame, and fear. I think everyone wants to know how to deal with these emotions, and get beyond them. A fantastic read, worth every minute of your time.
