Descrição do produto

San Francisco, 1975.

Woody, an artistically brilliant, socially inept street musician, is just getting by. Inspired by Stephanie, the love of his life, he writes an amazing song that could launch his musical career. Then an unexpected betrayal leaves him fighting for his relationship, his song and his future.

Hopelessly disorganized, armed only with his guitar and unique sense of humor, Woody tries to persevere against the inequities of the music business. Passion, desperation and intense idealism propel him head-on into the challenges of surviving as an uncompromising artist.

Face The Music is a story of love, self-discovery, and the spiritual power of music.

5.0 de 5 estrelas Captivating, fascinating, entertaining - this novel has it all! 3 de janeiro de 2015

Greg Anton has written a truly captivating novel. The book is a real page-turner. I could not put it down! The storyline unfolds the way the ocean waves perpetually bring up something new to discover in the tide-pools; you are intrigued to see what comes next. The central character, Woody, is a genius, rather eccentric guitarist, who is navigating the challenges of being in love, fighting to survive on every level, and being propelled around in the music business. Anton adeptly takes the reader through the idiosyncratic maze that is Woody's mind, heart, and soul. Woody's lover, Stephanie, is also revealed in depth, as if she is a many-faceted precious stone. Woody has written an exquisite song about Stephanie, which is the focal point of the novel, around which everything else spins. The author masterfully provides fascinating, colorful descriptions of the various environments and predicaments in which Woody finds himself. Anton is so skillful in his presentation of the scenes, characters, and prevailing atmosphere, that the reader may easily imagine everything quite vividly. Your experience as a reader will be enriched by reading this book.

This book was a fast-read and one of those books that you just don't want to put down. It focuses on the plight of Woody, a struggling musician who refuses to 'go commercial' but finds himself unable to pay his bills, keep his friendships and relationships going in a positive direction, and begins to wonder whether he has any future at all in music. There are lots of twists and turns--surprises--which kept me fully immersed in the story. Anton is able to weave several storylines and themes into a very moving narrative that drives forward into a powerful conclusion. A must read for anyone who shares the passion of music, art, and the question of how to 'make it' in a commercial-focused, mind-numbing world.

5.0 de 5 estrelas This is a good read! 25 de agosto de 2015

I enjoyed this book very much. It is very well-written and an interesting story with believable characters and many charming elements (spirituality, morality, humor). I bought this book because I was familiar with the author, Greg Anton, as a drummer. I honestly did not expect to enjoy it as much as I did! I worked in the Bay Area music scene for 30 years, and found the personalities and story line quite believable. And I really cared about the characters. Greg Anton is as good a writer as he is a drummer, and that's pretty darned good!

5.0 de 5 estrelas Fascinating and engaging story. A real page turner. 4 de março de 2015

What a clever and convincing story about the lows and highs of the music business. It's a great reminder that there is often an elaborate and challenging back story behind every successful song. Musicians often face many obstacles along the way and fame usually comes at a price. I loved learning about Woody and his fortitude in the music world...I really cared about his plight and wanted so much for him to prevail. Greg Anton knows how to develop characters and I found his story riveting and enlightening. I can't wait for his next book!

A long time ago I knew Greg Anton. He is a brilliant musician and writer. I enjoyed reading his novel. I am know he has drawn from his personal experience in the business and the people with whom he worked. Nice nod to Marty Levine. Best of luck in all his adventures
