Descrição do produto

Will pride and prejudice keep the Blank sisters from finding love?
With five daughters and no sons, Daed and Maem Blank are anxious to find their girls suitors who might eventually take over their family farm. When news arrives that Charles Beachey, the son of a prominent Amish farmer, will be returning from Ohio with his cousin Frederick, they are hopeful that the young men might be good matches for their daughters.
The oldest daughter, Jane, starts courting Charles, a well-mannered and very respectful young man, but her younger sister Lizzie is not interested in either courtship or Frederick. In fact, she wants nothing to do with him, finding him full of pride and disdain for her family's way of life. But in a community and culture where pride is scorned, Lizzie must learn that first impressions can be dangerous and people are not always who they seem to be.
This Amish retelling of the popular Jane Austen classic Pride and Prejudice is a beautiful take on the power of love to overcome class boundaries and prejudices that will win your heart.

Sobre o Autor

Sarah Price s family emigrated from Europe in 1705, settling in Pennsylvania as the area's first wave of Mennonite families. At nineteen, she befriended an Amish family and lived on their farm. Twenty-five years later, she splits her time between her family in the NYC Metro area and a home that she shares with an Amish woman in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania where she retreats to reflect and write. As a masterful storyteller, Sarah Price prides herself on presenting an authentic Amish experience for her readers."

5.0 de 5 estrelas Great Retelling of Pride and Prejudice! 18 de abril de 2017

After reading Persuasion, I knew that First Impressions would be equally awesome! I was very excited for this since I was disappointed with Eligible, a modern day retelling of Pride and Prejudice, I knew that Mrs. Price could restore my faith in retellings. While it deviates from the original tale, it sticks closely to the main plot. The story was very fast-paced and much shorter than the original. The only thing I didn't like about First Impressions was that I felt the ending slightly rushed. Nevertheless, it was very entertaining. I am now going to devour The Matchmaker!

I found that I could not put this book down and would have finished it in one day if I didn't have other obligations. I did manage to finish it in 2 days. I soon found myself inside the book and living with the Blank family. I am not a big fan of Lizzie's mom, as she seemed too prideful and pushy to me. She also seemed to think more of herself than of her daughter Jane after certain events took place. The author took me to Lancaster County and I felt a bit stunned when I finished the book, coming back to reality and realized, to my dismay, that there was no more to read.

Lizzie's parents have 5 daughters and no sons so her mom is anxious for her daughters to marry, hoping that one of her sons-in-law will eventually take over the farm. When Lizzie's mom learns that the neighboring farm will once again be occupied by members of the Beachy family, specifically Charles Beachy and his cousin George, she is determined that at lease one daughter will soon be wed. Along with Charles and Ben are Charles' sister and his best friend, Frederick. While Charles seems at home in the new community, His sister and Frederick seem to look down their noses at the small Amish community.

5.0 de 5 estrelas First Impressions Offers Second Chances! 13 de fevereiro de 2015

My daughter has often suggested that she would love to read Jane Austen's story lines set in Amish communities, so when I heard that Sarah Price had done just that, I was eager to see how it worked.

Amish fiction isn't my first choice, so I expected that to be something I'd have to overcome. Boy was I wrong! Sarah does a fabulous job of combining Austen and Amish in a way that makes you want to read more. Rather than a retelling of Pride and Prejudice, First Impression shows the basic story through the eyes and culture of the Amish. What is more Amish, after all, than overcoming pride?

Seeing the similarities and differences in the Pennsylvania and Ohio Amish was written in such an authentic and natural way that I didn't feel like I was getting just another lesson in Amish culture. Rather, Sarah gave us insight into just how "real" the Amish are. I think we "Englishe" have a tendency to set them on pedestals or push them aside as "quaint." Sarah's use of the age-old story to demonstrate the humanity of the Amish culture gives this book an engaging authenticity that is refreshing.

I look forward to her rendition of Austen's Emma with great anticipation

Sarah Price has done it again, leaving my in AWE after reading one of her books and spiritually filled. GOD has surely blessed Sarah Price with a gift of writing and to write His messages even if they are fictional.

I truly loved Sarah Price's version of Pride and Prejudice over the original. It was a page turner and makes you want to read the whole book in one sitting.

In the Amish culture the oldest son or youngest son is to inherit the family farm --depending on the district depends on which son, oldest or youngest, is to inherit the farm. If you live in Lancaster County, PA or Holmes County, PA farm land is very limited to purchase. The Amish like plenty of farmland. Farmland can be divided when it comes time for son to build his house and farm, and to be able to repeat tradition later on.

The Blank household were blessed with five daughters and no son to pass the family farm to. With all five of the daughters close to courting age, Maem (Mom) Blank is really pushing the issue of marriage. Maem Blank gets really excited when the family gets a letter learning that the neighboring farm will be occupied by the owner's son and nephew, whom are bachelors.

First Impressions: An Amish Tale of Pride and Prejudice is just that first impressions. Are first impressions on the outside accurate to what is truly on the inside?

5.0 de 5 estrelas Judge Not . 17 de maio de 2014

I've been reading this book the last few days . It shows how so many times people judge before they really know the facts or the person . Judging on looks or perceived actions .
This book is really good . The 5 sisters in the story are fun & oh so different from each other . The young men they met & judged were oh so different then they were first thought to be .

It's a got to read , can't put down book . I really am enjoying it .

I read until my battery went dead , just didn't want to put it down so I got on my Kindle for PC . Will be finishing it later today .
