I am a big fan of the author in real life and love his website and the tools on it. The book is just not as well organized and it seems a lot of it is for the extreme novice...as in "never used quotes in Google" novice.
I guess I was expecting more stories and things and to read less like a text book. He is a very colorful individual and I hope he doesn't recognize me from this post (we've talked at length at a conference).
One entire chapter is really all you need for the quick and dirty version of disappearing from public records copy sites and search engines online. You can get the book for that and skip all of the rest and get 90% of the benefit of the rest of the book. I hate to give him such a low score but this is really not much improved over the last edition which I also own. He also released this chapter online in PDF for free not long ago.
If you really want to hide from the Internet you need to change your name and change jobs and move at the same time, then have the Clerk of Courts screw it all up and lose everything. There's no other way out of it. You can't remove your name from websites like Wisconsin where you can claim an absentee ballot voting form without giving any ID nor even an email address and get personal information and a home address of the individual.
This book is still probably the best release around, but you just truly can't hide from a determined attacker or a nation state entity so the title is a bit misleading... I do give him credit for saying hiding and not vanishing. I really want to give him 5 stars but I just can't.
