There are many unexpected twists and turns in this novel. It definitely kept me guessing and wanting to read more. My only complaint, and thus the 4 stars instead of 5, is the superhuman abilities the author gives Lia become, to me at least, too much. I had trouble believing such poser could be contained by a single person.Otherwise, I did enjoy the adventure and will look forward to reading more from this author.
The story begins in the year 2342 with Lia waking up and alone with no knowledge of who she is. She notices pin sticks in various places on her body but doesn't know how they got there. Shortly after, she is attacked by a creature and then several more. The creature fighting conflicts continue. She is transformed after being annihilated and becomes stronger. After fighting her way to a new location, she discovers/learns to use a new weapon, a kynari, she finds at MiraiCorp and meets someone named Sirionous Barton.
On reading information at MiraiCorp she discovers 7 strain, a biological virus, that has been unleashed to help humans. Results seemed to be a miracle cure-all, but the side-effects turned its victims into monsters that turned on the world’s population. Lia discovers this information while in PsychoLife simmulation—Book1.
In Book 2, Lia faces the truth of what's happened to her and embraces it. The monsters called alphas and shifted are real and she continues to fight them. As she learns more about the shifted and alphas she grows in power but is always sad about loosing friends and blames herself, and rightfully so in great degree.
I liked Book1's Chapter 20, best. When John refused to give up on Lia. It has passion and empathy. Also when Barton is killed four chapters later, it was well deserved.
If you are a gamer or like constant intense violent action you will like this book. You can figure out things as the action unfolds. This story would make a great video game.
The main character wakes up with no memory of who she is, etc, and as you find out the story of her origin she makes attempts to save her species but every heroic decision seems to make things worse. Let's be honest, that's quite relatable!
There's plenty of violence which keeps you on the edge of your seat, and the descriptions hit me like a sledgehammer and sometimes made me cringe. (Again, in a good way!)
This author clearly has talent and the ability to weave together an exciting story. Following him so I can be alerted if/when he writes other things!
This was a first for me, reading a futuristic novel, and Ramsay painted the setting brilliantly with his detailed descriptions. I could picture a lone figure waking up in a derelict city being chased by some oversized bugs trying to hear her apart from limb to limb. Great stuff.
This book has plenty of violence which appealed to me in a big way!
Definitely worth your time for fans of this genre
