Maya and Filippo are very lucky children. They live on a Cruise Ship called the Sea Princess, and their father is the ship's captain. They get to visit countries and places all over the world. Today they visit in one of the most beautiful places.

The author, Alinka Rutkowska, has written such a wonderful series of books for children. In this book, the children visit Hawaii, and in particular one of the five islands, Oahu. When you read this book, you will learn all about Oahu and Hawaii. Parents/teachers will enjoy reading this book to their children. The children will have such fun learning about a state that may be new to them. One of the most important aspects of this series is learning about the people and how they live. The illustrations by Konrad Checinski are bright, vivid and colorful, and they depict the adventures of Maya and Filippo. The lessons learned in this book may affect the children in many positive ways.
Note: a complimentary copy of this book was provided to read and review.

The author suggests this book is for ages 3 - 8 and K - 3. I like it because in addition to the story about Hawaii there is a quiz at the end. And, this is educational for the little ones in your life.

The book has some colorful drawings as well as an exciting text. Maya and Filippo go on an excursion with their mom on the Oahu Island. They learn all sorts of things about the traditions of the island. They also learn about the real meaning of Aloha. In addition to meaning both hello and goodbye, it is also a joyful sharing of life. Very interesting to me.

Most highly recommended and am sure your children will enjoy the trip to Oahu with Maya and Filippo.

5.0 de 5 estrelas The many meanings of the word Aloha 23 de março de 2015
Por Grady Harp - Publicada na Amazon.com
Formato: eBook Kindle Compra verificada
Alinka Rutkowska writes the "Maya & Filippo" Book Series for Children - travel books for kids with a positive attitude. She takes inspiration from her own travels while cruising with her husband and daughter around the world. She is positive, appreciative and happy 95% of the time and during the miserable 5% she thinks to herself quickly: "things always work out for me" and they do. As with her previous books she engages the assistance of Konrad Checinski as her skillful illustrator.

As her previous readers will know Maya and Filippo are siblings AND best friends and this time their world adventures take them to Oahu, Hawaii. They learn that the word `Aloha' means hello when they see people. Maya and Filippo visit the beach, do the hula dance and learn to play the ukelele. A friendly islander explains that the word `aloha' has many meanings - `aloha' is a way of life and is consistent with the `Spirit of Aloha.' When people are happy in their home, it is a sense of feeling Aloha. When you are happy in your life, then you are true to Aloha. The spirit of Aloha is evident in the happiness of people who are enjoying themselves - and life!.

In addition to the delightful book there is a quiz so that children can re-live the adventure from memory (or from referencing their book) their own version of Maya and Filippo show Aloha. A fun combination of listening and acting out! Grady Harp, March 15

5.0 de 5 estrelas A Fun Way for Children to Learn about Countries...Travel through Reading!!! 16 de março de 2015

Maya and Filippo Show Aloha by Alinka Rutkowska is an educational book for children ages 4-8. Maya and her brother Filippo often sail the seas with their parents on a ship called the Fun Princess. They like visiting new countries and learning about the different cultures. This sailing trip takes the family to Hawaii, more specifically, Oahu. The children’s mother explains that the word Aloha means hello when they see people. They go to the beach, participate in a hula dance and play the ukelele. A nice man named Serge explains the word “Aloha” is more meaningful than they assume. Aloha is a way of life so is considered the “Spirit of Aloha.” When people are happy in their home, it is a sense of feeling Aloha. When you are happy in your life, then you are true to Aloha. The spirit of Aloha shows in the happiness of persons who are enjoying themselves. Maya and Filippo learn many fun facts on their exciting trip and wonder where the Fun Princess will take them next.

Maya and Filippo Show Aloha is very engaging and interesting. I like the beginning of the story, which starts with a game that has the siblings guessing where they are going, and think the question section at the back of the book is a great way to help children remember what they have learned from reading. The book cover and illustrations are colourful and nicely sketched to complement the activities in the story. Alinka Rutkowska has written another lovely book in her children’s series that is sure to delight young readers once again.

This was available for free on Kindle and our family had been studying Hawaii, so it seemed like an obvious choice to download.
The art is pretty awful, in my opinion. The story reads very 'flat' and trite. Very simplistic and all dialog very convenient and tidy.
I did like the author's efforts to help us understand the deeper meanings of the word 'aloha.' That part was better than the rest.
