This is Diana and Del’s story. This book is set on a beautiful ranch (Paradise Valley). Diana and Del are married, but she let him go to prison, knowing he was innocent. But he’s out, and they’re just getting to know one another. And they are finally beginning to fall in love. But a wealthy villain is trying to buy up all of the land in the area, including theirs. I really loved Diana, because of her spunk, but she also ticked me off to no end with her way she treated Del. Del, on the other hand, was mostly just the man you love to could not help but love. He had his own issue too of course. But don’t we all. He put up with Diana’s treatment of him anyway. Then there is Richard, the villain, was a truly horrible man and resorted to some pretty underhanded tricks to try to gain the land. They just have to find away to stay together and keep their ranch.
Now before I ruin this for you I will leave off here. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did. If you do like this book, please consider leaving a review. The Authors really like it when you do; they value your opinions too.
Diana, the main character, surprised me. I thought I’d really love her because of her spunk and energy, but she also frustrated me to no end with her ridiculous treatment of Del. She was a capable woman on many levels, and it was hard to dislike her in the end. Del, on the other hand, was mostly just the hero you love to love, with a few indiscretions of course. He put up with Diana’s ridiculousness, and I fell in love with him more with each page I turned. Richard, the villain, was truly awful and resorted to some pretty nasty underhanded tricks to try to gain the land. Clem and the other ranch hands added a homey feel to the ranch, and Baldface the Bear was a fun little diversion from the main story.
The only complaint I have with this story is the number of “almost” moments. They’d almost get together and then some terrible thing would happen. Then they’d almost get together again, get split up again, etc. Of course this is common in romance novels, but usually after two or three conflicts, the couple finds true love and lives happily ever after. In The Queen of Paradise Valley, I felt like I was being strung along and they were never going to figure it out. It just got really, really long.
Del and Diana have a tumultuous, crazy past involving fights, shotguns and prison sentences (rich dads always get their way when you mess with their beautiful daughters). But Del has been gone for four years, and now that he is back, he wants what was owed to him when he left. Diana has no intention of allowing that to happen and will do anything to stop him.
But Del is stubborn and sexy, Diana is stubborn and beautiful, and they are both in love. You know they are going to end up together, but the adventures they must face to get there are interesting, dangerous and fun to read. Dubie takes her characters and builds them into real people with real situations, creating a book you won’t want to put down. Enjoy!
