Resenha da Amazon.com.br

As the inhabitants of Redwall Abbey bask in the glorious Summer of the Late Rose, all is quiet and peaceful. But things are not as they seem. Cluny the Scourge, the evil one-eyed rat warlord, is hell-bent on destroying the tranquility as he prepares to fight a bloody battle for the ownership of Redwall. This dazzling story in the Redwall series is packed with all the wit, wisdom, humor, and blood-curdling adventure of the other books in the collection, but has the added bonus of taking the reader right back to the heart and soul of Redwall Abbey and the characters who live there.

Magical, mystical, and the stuff of legends, this stunning tale of good battling with--and ultimately triumphing over--evil takes the reader on a roller-coaster adventure that barely draws breath from the first page to the very last. Brian Jacques is a true master of his craft. --Susan Harrison

5.0 de 5 estrelas Great for gifted 4th and 5th graders 16 de janeiro de 2013

These were just coming out when I was a kid of that age and everyone loved them. As a college student, all my friends read these as kids and loved them. Then around mid-high school we all went back and read them for another familiar happy re-read and realized they are really terrible - cliche, terrible writing, fake drama. But kids LOVE them. So it's not good for read aloud as adults will lose their minds. But so meaningful and fun for kids. You do need to be a good reader/book lover for them as many of the characters have accents or dialects that are phonetically spelled with lots of apostrophes and such. This tripped up my brother at a young age. Also you should be able to skim or else kids may get bored with long descriptions of scenery and food unless they are into that.

5.0 de 5 estrelas Redwall by Brian Jacques 12 de novembro de 2014

Redwall is the first volume in a series of 15 books that Brian Jacques wrote for a group of orphaned blind children in Liverpool, England that was fortuitously published. It is stated to be for a youthful audience, but it is my experience that it holds charm for all ages. It is beautifully written, well constructed and the tale delightfully resolves so that the reader comes away pleased and reassured that the time was well spent reading the book.

The world of Redwall is good and caring, the way we would want the world to be if we could have an environment where those around us cared for the well-being of each other and those who were evil were well defined and doomed for defeat. The characters in Redwall are forest creatures from a mythical and medieval time. The scenes are set in an abbey and a forest. From there we are invited to follow the machinations of those who live in Redwall Abbey and those who try to destroy the tranquil life of those who inhabit the abbey.

I used the book with advanced non-native speakers for the charm of the book, the fast-paced plot and the delight of both the the characters and the well-written language. I question whether this series will go down as classical literature, but as Dickens has made his mark on English literature, I suspect that Jacques may well find his place in English literature also. There is also a video series on YouTube that makes it easier for students to follow the flow of the story should they wish to use it. t

Children find the story engaging; my students were equally delighted with the novel and I was pleased to find something that kept the interest of my students as well as building their vocabulary base.

5.0 de 5 estrelas but glad that they like it 8 de abril de 2017

My students are enthralled with this book. I was not a fan of it, but glad that they like it. It looks like it is more popular with the 4-5th grade boys crowd of kids rather than girls. It starts off boring and gets more exciting as you read.

3.0 de 5 estrelas Difficult to enjoy as an adult 31 de maio de 2012
Por Penned - Publicada na Amazon.com

I bought a used copy of this book (here on Amazon) a few weeks ago, and I wasn't able to get into it. Now, to clarify: I am a 22 year old English major who loves fantasy. I tried reading it when I was much younger, and could not emerse myself into the series or really enjoy it. As a young adult, I figured that giving the series a second go would be prudent. My roommate, who has great taste, swears by Redwall so I picked up the first book and read it from cover to cover. But I did have to force myself: this is clearly a children's chapter book. While I see why people love the series and why it's lasted the test of time, I wouldn't recommend it to readers over 15 or so. The sentences are very short and direct, with simple language and rather rudimentary elements. Characters are very basic, and the plot is predictable.

However, I would very much recommend the book for young readers. It is creative in the same way that NIMH was creative (you could almost think of Redwall as being a history before NIMH, in a way), and has a few funny moments. My niece recently discovered Arthurian stories, and is eight, so I'll be giving her my copy.

4.0 de 5 estrelas Redwall, a good start of fantasy and adventure 27 de janeiro de 2017

A good start for an excellent fantasy series enjoyable for children and up. The Redwall books have been one of my favorite series since I was little, allowing me to dive into a medieval world of anthropomorphic animals. Revolving around the benevolent abbey sanctuary, the creatures living there encounter rogue forces that they must struggle to overcome to maintain peace and justice in the land. The adventures the characters go on, the challenges they face, the experience they receive to mature, are aspects that make these fantastic tales.
