My copy of "Salute the Wreckage" came today and I sat down and read it straight through, something I ordinarily would never do. What a pleasure to spend a couple of hours with intelligent, witty, emotionally resonant poems--I could not put the book down. I won't single out a particular poem as the book is filled with favorites, but I will say the elegiac poems for the author's father are particularly moving.

5.0 de 5 estrelas A great collection 17 de abril de 2016

Clint Margrave's collection is a beautiful meditation on life and death, loss, growing old, and relationships. It's been a very long time since a book of poetry has moved me as much as this collection did. Margrave is no slouch when it comes to craft; there are humorous poems, perfectly placed, to help with the pacing and the weighty poems they are in between. "Family Tree" could be mistaken for a Mark Twain quote.
5.0 de 5 estrelas This second book is even better than his first 7 de setembro de 2016

No blurbs, no airbrushed author photo, and barely any bio details. Clint Margrave prefers the focus to be on the poems and it shows. This second book is even better than his first.

"What Ahab needed
was a little mindful meditation,
a hot yoga class,
a Swedish massage,
something to unlock his anxious brain,
set him back in the present,
guide him in from the shore,
tell him his thoughts were just thoughts,
a quick Google search
to reveal he wasn't alone"

Clint once again shows he has his finger on the pulse of our collective consciousness... Salute the Wreckage is a must read and must read again... And again and again....
5.0 de 5 estrelas As good as Clint Margrave's first book 29 de abril de 2016
Por Fred Voss - Publicada na Amazon.com
Formato: Capa comum
As good as Clint Margrave's first book, The Early Death of Men, is, this new book,
Salute the Wreckage, is even better. His voice grows stronger, his wisdom deeper, his humanism finer.
Clint Margrave is that rare poet: clear and accessible, yet deep and many-layered at the same
time. His lively, curious wit surprises and amuses as it uncovers and speaks often inconvenient truths
and questions the authority of our received beliefs. God may be dead, as Nietzsche said, but Margrave
celebrates our humanity and our lives with courage, compassion and comradeship.
Some of his best poems in Salute the Wreckage are the moving and haunting poems
about the death of his father, such as "Commando", where with macabre humor he describes how
he and his family forgot to bring underwear to the mortuary for his father to be buried in,
and how funny they found it funny while the funeral coordinator was shocked.
Get this book. Clint Margrave is the real thing.
