Descrição do produto

"Well, I see you got your mouth working again, anyway," Jack said.
"What's that supposed to mean?" she asked.
"It means I've been up to here with you tippy-toeing around being nice, because you're afraid you'll say something snarky and I'll just happen to take that opportunity to drop dead."

Emma has been in love with Jack since she was a girl, but nothing ever came of it and she's not a child anymore; she's raising one of her own and growing up means letting go of childhood dreams.

But when Jack returns home to Alabama for the first time in a decade, Emma realizes that she's never stopped dreaming and Jack realizes that he's spent his life looking for something that he'd already left behind.

When Jack delivers the news that he's not expected to live another year, Emma is devastated. But Jack has a plan, and while going along may break Emma's heart, sometimes something is so good that it's worth having, even if you know you can't keep it.

Irreverent, wry and quietly beautiful, See You is a bittersweet celebration of the simple beauty of life itself, the gift of time and the fact that sometimes, happily-ever-after isn't as important as happy-every-moment-you-have.

Sobre o Autor

Dawn Lee McKenna doesn't write romance but she does write love stories, stories filled with the dry humor, oddly lyrical language and textured people that make the South such a rich companion to a writer's imagination. Dawn Lee lives in Tennessee and is the mother of five amazing kids, an unrepentant romantic and a coffee addict with no intention of rehabilitating.

5.0 de 5 estrelas this is a love story, which is different from a romance 28 de dezembro de 2014

Full Disclosure: I know the Dawn Lee McKenna, but only barely. We have never met, but we exchanged a brief series of posts about writing on an author’s forum. And I paid for the book. In other words, she owes me nothing, and I owe her nothing. But it was through these posts that I even considered purchasing her book “See You.”

First of all, I am a male, and I don’t generally read “romance” novels because many are just a bit too formulaic and predictable for my taste, and almost all give a strongly female slant to the story. As the author states in her blurb and on the cover, this is a love story, which is different from a romance, and I won’t go into the reasons why just now. It is also set in the present time, and I have never read a contemporary love story before. I lean to historical fiction and non-fiction. And if something isn’t getting blown up, or someone isn’t getting killed, then it just isn’t exciting enough for me. In spite of all that violence, I am a big softy.

I do like a good love story well told, and occasionally I even catch a “chick flick” movie on the Hallmark Channel to spend some TV time with my wife. But most are not worth my trouble and are only barely entertaining. There are a few exceptions, however—very few.

As you can see, I approached “See You” somewhat doubtful I would like it—until I read the “Look inside” sample pages on Amazon. I didn’t even read the whole free sample before I hit the “one click” purchase button.

And I was not disappointed.

This is a beautiful story and well written. The author has a voice that makes you very comfortable, especially if you are from the South, and I am. I love the way she speaks and how her characters speak, interact, and think.

The story is unusual in that it brings two people together that seem like they should never be together. But after you get into the story, it becomes obvious they were meant for each other, and their “differences” cease to exist as differences. I soon felt like I knew these people, and I cared about them and what they faced. Dawn Lee (and her characters) made me laugh out loud, and also made me weep (get over it!). It is a great story of loss and redemption and two people finding something they thought they would never find. Well worth the price of entry!

Is it perfect? They were only two typos I found, but almost any book will have a few. I don’t care who wrote or published it, or how many times an editor went over it, poop happens. And she called the thingie that holds the bullets in a pistol a “clip.” They are more correctly called “magazines.” A clip is what loads a magazine. Yes, truly nitpicking, and probably 99.9% of her readers would never catch this minor faux pas. Only us anal-retentive gun cranks would.

I thoroughly enjoyed it and have not the slightest qualm about giving “See You” five stars. If you like good love stories, you will love “See You.” (But have the tissues handy.)

5.0 de 5 estrelas True Southern Charm 27 de janeiro de 2015
Por Wayne Stinnett, Author of the Jesse McDermitt Caribbean Adventure Series - Publicada na Amazon.com

Where to start? I know the author through an author's discussion forum, so let's get that out of the way. For that reason, I give this book 6 stars. Leaving that out, 5.

However, had I never heard of Dawn Lee McKenna and this book was something my wife recommended, this is exactly what I'd say about it. First off, this isn't my usual reading genre, so I would have started reading my wife's recommendation with some trepidation and what we call "hemming and hawing". It's not really a romance, but more of a love story. I would say a tragic love story, but that wouldn't be accurate. There's nothing tragic in the love a husband and wife have for one another and their family. A love that transcends death. A love that lasts through generations. A "One Thing" love.

This is a story about two people who find each other after nearly a lifetime, even though they've known each other all their lives. It's a story of joy and sadness, the highs and lows that come in any relationship, and the faith these two have in one another and in God. This is an emotional read, so be warned. I'm a tough old former Marine and former truck driver. In other words, a manly man. I'm unashamed to say that while reading this, I cried tears of joy, tears of sorrow, of pride, tenderness, love, and pain. I was deeply moved by this story.

Had I not known the author, I would never have guessed it to be her first book. Dawn Lee writes like a seasoned professional, pouring her very soul into every line and page of her story. You can see her characters and setting, smell the peach blossoms, hear the crickets, taste the sweet iced tea, and feel the touch of a lover. It seems like I've I known Jack and Emma for years, like they were my long time neighbors. It might be the southern charm of the setting, I live in the south, as well. I can see more of my own neighbors in Jack and Emma's neighbors, Gina and Dew and all their friends along the country road they live on. Simple people, living simple lives, in a simple, rural setting. A truly magnificent novel, first one or not. I've already started reading her next one.

5.0 de 5 estrelas Best women's fiction book I've read in a long time! 26 de dezembro de 2014

This book is a must-read for anybody fascinated by the human condition or simply looking for a great southern romance book to curl up with and read cover-to-cover. It's not your typical romance novel; it's more a story about real people who are just living life and learning to know each other while they make the best of a difficult situation. The characters are well-developed and the writing is done in such a way that you are totally drawn into the story.
When I realized that this was the first book by this author, I was floored. She doesn't commit any of the faux pas you often find in first books and does an excellent job of building a world that you can completely lose yourself in. I found myself laughing and crying, sometimes at the same time, several times throughout the book and am eagerly awaiting Ms. McKenna's next book. Well done, and write quickly please! :)

I discovered Ms. McKenna when I was offered the 1st in her Forgotten Coast Florida Suspense series for free, and not only did I devour the series, I've snagged everything else she's written since, including "See You". Needless to say I LOVED the Forgotten Coast series and am anxiously awaiting the next release, but I'd be remiss if I didn't take a few minutes to praise Ms. McKenna for this beautiful story, it is without a doubt one of the most heartfelt books I've ever read (and I read A LOT) that will have you laughing and crying, often times on the same page. Ms. McKenna has a knack for drawing you into the world of her characters, you literally feel and experience their lives as though you were living them. For those McKenna fans who haven't yet grabbed "See You', shame on you, and for those of you who haven't yet discovered her talent, you simply must, MUST do so, you will NOT be disappointed . . .!!!

Extraordinary first book! Reads as if it was written by an author with years of experience. I would happily recommend this book to anyone and everyone who wants a picture of life in the South.
How do you describe this book? It does say a love story and, while it is about love, it is also about humor, life and choices. We have all been to the dark place where we regret something we did (or didn't do) in the past. This book is about being honest with
yourself about your choices and learning to live life because it is worth living.
While I am not an avid romance reader, I do have to say this is one of the best books I have read all year. The picture painted with these words is of love, but the way it is painted is with a brush of humor and a deep respect for the South.
