Amazon entregou tudo certinho e em bom prazo. Um belo digipack, uma arte linda demais e o encarte bem bonito.

Já o disco é legal, as musicas são boas, tem umas composições legais e a bateria e o vocal estão excelente, só não curti muito o baixo, achei bem feijão com arroz e com os acordes agudos demais, e a guitarra dobrando com as melodias (tirando isso gostei das guitarras), a parte das musicas ter muitas repetições tmb não achei muito legal, falam que o Iron ta seguindo uma parada progressiva, mas pegar uma parte e repetir 10 vezes em um compasso maior não é ser progressivo.

Mas de forma geral está bom, não acho que seja comparável a SIT por exemplo, talvez bata de frente com o AMOLAD por serem da nova fase do Iron. Mas quem é fã não vai se decepcionar, Iron Maiden não precisa provar nada pra ninguém. UP THE IRONS

Lançado em 3 de setembro de 2021, "Senjutsu" ("táticas" em japonês) é o 17º álbum de estúdio da banda britânica de heavy metal Iron Maiden, o 6º da formação em sexteto. Lançamento do Iron é sempre um grande evento no mundo da música e dessa vez não foi diferente: o álbum deu e ainda está dando o que falar. Aclamado por uns e massacrado por outros, a máxima é: "fale bem ou fale mal, mas fale de Senjutsu". Sendo assim, resolvi trazer aqui as minhas impressões.

Mas por que demorei tanto tempo pra falar sobre? Bom, esse é o primeiro ponto sobre "Senjutsu": o álbum precisa de um tempo de contemplação e dificilmente vai te pegar de primeira. Apenas duas faixas são de fácil assimilação: "Stratego", com aquela cavalgada clássica, e "Days of Future Past", que esbanja melodia. As outras são canções mais densas, não só pela longa duração mas também pela estrutura diferenciada, viradas de tempo, andamentos mais cadenciados mesclados a riffs mais pesados, longos solos de guitarra, enfim, nada que um fã de Maiden já não esteja acostumado, mas que leva certo tempo para ser digerido.

Já na abertura isso fica bem claro com a extensa e grandiosa faixa-título. Em "The Writing on the Wall" a banda flerta com o southern rock, achei curiosa a escolha da faixa para primeiro single, prova que o Iron, mesmo sem abrir não de sua sonoridade clássica, ainda se arrisca a incorporar novos elementos ao seu som. "Senjutsu" não chega pra ser só mais um, é um álbum singular na discografia do Maiden e que imprime uma forte identidade.

O QUE EU MAIS GOSTEI? Pra mim, a dupla Dickinson/Smith roubou a cena! É dela as melhores composições: "The Writing on the Wall", "Days of Future Past" e, minha favorita, a belíssima e sombria "Darkest Hour". Também merecem destaque "The Time Machine" e dois épicos de Steve Harris: a hipnotizante "The Parchment" e "Hell on Earth", que fecha o disco com maestria.

O QUE NÃO ME AGRADOU? A única faixa que não me pegou foi "Lost in a Lost World", mas isso pode mudar com o tempo, afinal, "Death of the Celts" também demorou pra me conquistar. Não achei que foi uma boa colocar as três músicas mais longas, que somam incríveis 35 minutos, para fechar o álbum (apesar de serem canções épicas). Quanto a produção, reclamação recorrente dos últimos álbuns do Maiden e que mais uma vez ficou por conta de Kevin Shirley em parceria com Steve Harris, acho que poderia ser melhor: falta um pouco de brilho e o som, por vezes, soa como que abafado. Mas nada que comprometa e isso também não é novo. São apenas alguns detalhes, não dá nem pra dizer que são defeitos, afinal, foram escolhas do artista e devem ser entendidas como tal.

Apontados os prós e os contras, acredito que "Senjutsu" não irá agradar aos ouvidos mais imediatistas, mas irá recompensar aqueles que tiverem paciência e atenção. É um álbum denso, não fácil de penetrar e que carece de músicas mais "comerciais". Confesso que tive um pouco de dificuldade no início, mas a obra foi crescendo a cada audição e acabou por me cativar. Onde se encaixa "Senjutsu" na discografia do Maiden? Isso só o tempo irá dizer...

Tido depende de o quão o ouvinte é ci prometido e admira a fase "Maiden a partir de 2000" com o BRAVE NEW WORLD, com a formação sexteto e o Kevin Shirley apertando os botões da meda de som para o Steve Harris.

Caso goste, este álbum é mais do mesmo: canções longuíssimas na maioria, Bruce se esgoelando, as 3 guitarras você mal sabe quem é quem, etc.
Dessa vez, porém, a produção está muito melhor que BOOK OF SOULS.

Enfim, exige comprometimento... 82 minutos de música... não é fast food musical....

Iron Maiden volta a ser relevante no Senjutsu, a comecar pele arte gráfica, em especial o desenho da contracapa de autoria do Mark Wilkinson. Bruce brilha em The Time Machine e em de Darkest Hour e The Parchment reafirma a alta qualidade técnica dos músicos, com destaque para os solos de guitarra. Pensei que vinha mais do mesmo, mas por sorte me enganei. Up the Irons!

Talvez um dos últimos registros em estúdio de uma das maiores bandas de Heavy Metal. Uma espécie de terceira fase estilística da banda, mas nada que mude o objetivo de todos os discos anteriores: trazer emoção aos fãs através de melodias nas distorções competente das guitarras. O disco abrange diferentes gostos musicais de diferentes épocas do Maiden, desde a famosa cavalgada do baixo do Harris, até uma leve similaridade com The Clansman. O disco abre de forma épica, com uma canção que em seu refrão traz mínimos lampejos de um Angra (opinião arriscadamente minha hahahaha) Em suma, vale super a pena ter esse álbum. Quanto mais ouço, mais me apaixono por ele. Super recomendo! BY ONURB!

SENJUTSU é mais uma obra prima entregue pelo IRON MAIDEN. O ápice da sonoridade que vêm desenvolvendo desde Brave New World (na verdade desde o The X-Factor). É uma jornada sonora sem precedentes. Musicas épicas e pesadas, com diversas atmosferas, que constroem verdadeiras imagens mentais. O baixo de Steve Harris esta estalando do começo ao fim. Os 3 guitarristas estão soltíssimos e inspirados. Bruce Dickinson explorou mais seus tons mais graves e nos entregou interpretações muito emocionantes. E mais uma vez o trabalho de Nicko McBrain é fantástico, encaixando grooves apetitosos em musicas progressivas, tornando as musicas ainda mais poderosas. Steve Harris é um genio e SENJUTSU é um álbum super ambicioso, complexo e divertido. Não parece que tem mais de 1h20. Deve ser apreciado sem pressa e vale toda a atenção.

I'll have to admit that I've been generally less enthusiastic about what I think of as the second half of the Iron Maiden musical career having gotten into them when they actually started off. To me the absolute peak of their excellence was Live After Death where they achieved the perfect balance of short, sharp and punchy songs with more complex ones to pace the show. It's not just the best album they have done, it's one of the greatest rock albums of all time.

However, there is no doubt that musically Maiden have moved their personal goalposts into a more complex storytelling style. Many call it progressive but I don't feel that's the case. Maiden are still metal but have added layers and nuances and stories that have evolved things for them personally.

I still love the early galloping rock sound though.

And that's why oddly I rather like this album more than much if not all of their output over the last 15 years.

What Maiden have done on this album to my ears anyway, is to bring together in a more cohesive way the two sides of their sound. We have the more furious galloping sounds more familiar to their early stuff but they have mixed into it the longer emotive output of recent years in a far better way than they have done previously. There is a bit of the Maiden sound for all of us in a nutshell.

I guess I could go through each song tune by tune but honestly, there are pro-reviews out there that will do it better than me.

However, as ever there are some standouts. And for me how far a song stands out indicates how good the album is as whole. If a particular song is miles ahead of the rest then chances are the album is not that great. On Senjutsu whilst there are favourites it's almost difficult to easily pick them and that to me means the album as a whole is of generally high standard.

And this most certainly is.

However, if I was forced to pick a few winners then I'd have to say Death of the Celts because of the very catching riffing mid way through that reminds me of some of the Maiden early stuff - perhaps even if I dare mention it in the same breath, but Phantom of the Opera. Which incidentally I can't every listen too without thinking of the Daley Thompson advert it was used on.

Then 'Hell on Earth' must be up there. In some ways it's a bit like the European styled operatic metal such as Avantasia do. It's definitely an epic and probably the song on which I think Bruce sounds the best.

Fundamentally this is a great Maiden album and in fact to my ears a return to form. I know that because I've played it back to back three times not gave it a spin and then put it to one side.

One should also mention that the production is fantastic. A superb balance of instruments and vocals recorded in a clear way that gives a perfect tonal balance.

Bottom line that I as an ancient metal head from the early days is chuffed to report that Maiden have after all these years managed to up their game and bring something new and exciting to their canon of work. Frankly after the superb AC/DC Power Up and now Maiden pulling out a winner the joy of old rock fans globally can be heard. In fact at the start of this review I was going to give this a four star review, but as I was writing it I had the album on again and I just figured that it would be unfair of me to put down anything other than top marks.

So ein starkes Album hätte ich nicht erwartet

Nach meiner Jahrelangen Tätigkeit als Redakteur bei diversen Metal Magazinen habe ich es mir zur Angewohnheit gemacht, auch in meiner schreiberischen Rente dennoch Reviews zu Iron Maiden Alben zu verfassen. So auch zu "Senjutsu", dem aktuell 17. Studio Album der Briten. 6 Jahre sind seit der letzten Langrille "The Book of Souls" vergangen; das ist die bis dato längste Pause, die das Sextett hat verstreichen lassen, auch wenn man in dem Zeitraum nicht faul war, sondern neben der Albumtour 2016/17 auch danach gleich 2018/19 noch die herausragende Legacy of the Beast Tour spielte. Dazu hat man 2019 das Album in Paris im Guillaume Tell Studio zusammen mit Kevin Shirley aufgenommen.

"Senjutsu" wurde im 19. Juli angekündigt. Zuvor gab es noch eine sehr kryptische virtuelle Schnitzeljagd - Stichwort Belshazzars Feast, bei der verschiedene Hinweise mehr oder weniger auf einen Youtube Event hindeuteten, wobei letztendlich am Abend das Video zu "The Writing on the Wall" sowie die Neuigkeiten zum neuen Album veröffentlicht wurden.

Nun halte ich das neue Album einen Tag vor der offiziellen Veröffentlichung in den Händen und bin extrem positiv überrascht. Zuvor hatte ich schon einige Reviews zu "Senjutsu" gelesen, was die Neugierde stetig wachsen lies, wobei ich mir letztendlich dennoch selbst immer eine Meinung bilde. Doch wollen wir doch gleich in die Vollen gehen.

Noch eins zum Thema Doppelalbum: Das haben Iron Maiden bei "The Book of Souls" bereits gemacht, wobei auch schon u.a. Metallica und Helloween Doppelalben veröffentlicht haben, die man problemlos auf einer CD unterbringen hätte können. So auch bei "Senjutsu", denn "The Darkest Hour" hat zum Schluss noch 35 Sekunden Meeresrauschen mit Möwenlauten und "Hell on Earth" sogleich nur 30 Sekunden Stille. Damit kommt man zwar immer noch auf etwas mehr als 80 Minuten, aber ein Geschmäckle hats trotzdem. Aber egal,...

Zur Musik:
1. Senjutsu (Smith/Harris) 8:20
Die Reigen werden eröffnet durch das Titelstück "Senjutsu", das frei übersetzt Taktik und Strategie bedeutet. Laut einem Bild von Kevin Shirley sollte die Nummer zunächst "The Great Wall" heißen. Mit mächtigen Drums wird der Song eingeleitet. Insgesamt klingt das Stück sehr mächtig, gar majestätisch. Für mich klingt "Senjutsu" irgendwie wie der fernöstliche Pendant zu der Titelnummer "The Book of Souls". Eher langsam, aber sehr episch mit starken Melodien, die sich sofort einprägen.

2. Stratego (Gers/Harris) 4:59
Die zweite "Singleauskopplung" (was sich ja mittlerweile leider nur noch auf Streaming / Downloads begrenzt), die am 19. August den Massen bekannt gegeben wurde. Eine eher flotte Nummer mit verhältnismäßig kurzer Spielzeit. Am Anfang war ich von den hohen Keyboard Tönen etwas irritiert, doch mittlerweile mag ich die Nummer wirklich sehr, auch wenn die gängigen Trademarks an und für sich nix neues bieten, wie etwa die gallopierenden Drums a la The Trooper, die führende Leadgitarre im Refrain parallel zu Bruce Gesang oder die mehrstimmigen Gitarren im Mittelteil. Dennoch macht das Gesamtpaket einen sehr guten Eindruck und weiß zu gefallen.

3. The Writing On The Wall (Smith/Dickinson) 6:13
Innovativ wird es dann mit "The Writing on the Wall". Eine Nummer wie sie nur von Bruce und Adrian kommen kann. Die Gitarren klingen wie eine Mischung aus Journey (Wheel in the Sky) und Aerosmith ("Living on the Edge"), aber man erkennt doch schnell, das hier Iron Maiden am Werk sind. Als ich den dazugehörigen Videoclip mit den unzähligen Zitaten zum ersten Mal gesehen habe, war ich absolut begeistert davon. Der Refrain geht sofort ins Ohr und wird live eine wahre Mitsinghymne werden!

4. Lost In A Lost World (Harris) 9:31
Mit "Lost in alost World" kommt die Nummer, die mir am wenigsten auf dem Album gefällt. Der ruhige Anfang stört mich dabei nicht einmal, aber irgendwie klingt das Stück etwas sperrig und zu konstruiert, was mich wiederum an das besser gelungene "The Thin Line Between Love and Hate" erinnert. Die Parts einzeln für sich betrachtet klingen dabei großteils alles andere als schlecht, aber da gibt es zig bessere Maiden Songs.
Abschließend dazu: Stellenweise habe ich in Reviews Verweise zu "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" und "Fear of the Dark" gelesen, was ich absolut nicht nachvollziehen kann, da "Lost in a lost World" nicht einmal ansatzweise an diese beiden Göttersongs rankommt.

5. Days Of Future Past (Smith/Dickinson) 4:03
Mit einer Spielzeit von etwas mehr als 4 Minuten ist "Days of Future Past" der kürzeste Track auf "Senjutsu". Vom Riffing ist das ein richtiger Rocker geworden, wobei das Riff ab 0:32 min mich etwas an "Antisocial" der Franzosen Trust erinnert. Starke Nummer die in etwa in die Kerbe von "The Pilgrim", "The Wicker Man" oder "Speed of Light" schlägt.

6. The Time Machine (Gers/Harris) 7:09
"The Time Machine" ist die letzte Nummer auf Disc 1 und in meinen Augen ein richtiger Grower. Soll heißen, dass mir das Stück zu Beginn gar nicht gefallen hat, mir aber mittlerweile sehr ans Herz gewachsen ist. Der melancholische Anfang ist dabei bereits sehr fesselnd, wobei darauf vertrackte Drums in die Strophe führen. Im Mittelteil darf man sich auf die typischen Dudelparts freuen die von manchen geliebt, von anderen gehasst werden. Ich oute mich als "Dudel" Fan und freue mich über die starken Melodien, wobei auch der spätere Gitarren Soli Part stark ausgefallen ist.

7. Darkest Hour (Smith/Dickinson) 7:20
Mit "Darkest Hour" wird die zweite Disc bärenstark eingeleitet, einer bärenstarken Halbballade die mit herausragenden Texten glänzt:

We buried our sons - We turned and fled - No growing old - The glorious dead / But we came back - Because one man said - Now on the beaches - The blood runs red (Smith / Dickinson)

Gänsehaut pur, nicht nur wegen der bedrückenden Atmosphäre sondern auch dem starken Gesang von Bruce. Bei dem Song passt einfach alles.

8. Death Of The Celts (Harris) 10:20
"Death of the Celts" ist der erste der drei Steve Harris Schluss Nummern auf dem Album. Der Beginn erinnert mich doch etwas an "The Clansman" vom "Virtual XI" Album, wobei im späteren Verlauf ein langer verspielter Mittelteil folgt, der viele Zitate an vergangene Zeiten bietet und dabei an "The Book of Souls", "7th Son" und "The X-Factor" erinnern lässt.

9. The Parchment (Harris) 12:39
Beginnt "The Parchment" in den ersten Sekunden fast schon wie Ravels "Bolero" wandelt sich dies ab 1:10 min in Steve Harris Version von "The Book of Souls". Starkes mächtiges Riffing mit schleppenden Drums. Grundsätzlich hätte "The Parchment" musikalisch betrachtet auch problemlos auf dem 2015er Album stehen können. Das muss aber nichts negatives bedeuteten, denn auch wenn das Stück absolut megatypisch nach Steve Harris klingt, beweist er damit lediglich, dass er auch nach 46 Jahren noch aus dem Eff Eff eine Hammer Nummer raushauen kann, die von der ersten bis zur letzten Sekunde nicht langweilig wird. Ab 8:38 ist dann Gänsehaut im Kubik angesagt, denn was Bruce hier abliefert geht absolut unter die Haut. Hammer! Einfach nur Hammer!

10. Hell On Earth (Harris) 11:19
Wenn man nach "The Parchment denkt, dass das nicht mehr gesteigert werden kann, der irrt gewaltig. Steve Harris haut da so einfach mal noch "Hell on Earth" raus. Der Anfang klingt auch hier sehr düster und atmosphärisch, bevor dann bei 2:16 die verzerrten Gitarren einsetzen und das Stück etwas flotter wird. Bei 3:32 setzt dann auch mal der Gesang ein. Auch bei diesem Song passt einfach alles: Der vielschichtige Aufbau, denn trotz Überlänge kommt hier keine Langeweile auf; die Melodien, der Gesang, die Atmosphäre, der Refrain. Wenn "Hell on Earth" nicht zu einem Highlight der kommenden Albumtour wird, dann weiß ich auch nicht.

Fazit: Auch wenn ich Artworks wie bei "Powerslave", "Somewhere in Time" oder "7th Son" lieber mag, gefällt mir dennoch das Cover zu "Senjutsu" sehr gut.
Der Sound klingt bärenstark, wobei ich die Kritiken mancher Fans bei "A Matter of Life and Death" oder "The Book of Souls" auch heute noch nicht wirklich nachvollziehen kann.
Es ist etwas schade, dass Dave Murray keinen kreativen Beitrag zu "Senjutsu" beigesteuert hat, aber das macht das Album dessen ungeachtet nicht schlechter. Dafür ist es die erste Scheibe seit Virtual XI sprich seit 23 Jahren, welches mehrere Songs von Steve Harris enthält, die er komplett alleine geschrieben hat.
Mir gefällt "Senjutsu" sehr, sehr gut - zumindest nach ca. 10 - 12 Durchgängen. Ich bin ehrlich, dass ich nicht mit solch einem starken Album gerechnet habe. Doch so schnell wird man eines besseren gelehrt, was mich natürlich letztendlich sehr freut. "Lost in a lost World" gebe ich natürlich weiter noch die Chance sich zu entwickeln und vielleicht zündet die Nummer ja beim 50sten Durchgang, wer weiß.

What an amazing album , I thought The book of souls was great but this is better in my opinion . So many great songs it’s hard to pick a favourite . Highlights for me are Death of the Celts , Hell on Earth , Writing on the wall , and The time machine . Bruce on vocals is as good as ever . Amazing . All I can say is Up the Irons .

Anyone expecting an album of the calibre or tone of Maiden at top of their game (read: 1980s) really need to accept 3 things: 1) The 80s are long past, 2) Maiden are a wee bit older, wiser and more mature, and 3) Things change, get over it.
To be clear, those are not bad things and Senjutsu is a very good Maiden album, probably better than anything they've released since Brave New World, although Book of Souls was a very good album.
The songs on Senjutsu are those of a band comfortable with what they are doing, confident enough to produce an album that stays roughly on the same well-trodden path, but that has a greater sense of maturity than anything else they've released since the early 90s. Yes, the songs are less immediate (apart from possibly Stratego, which is the sort of mid-tempo effort that Maiden do so well and Days Of Future Past) and yes the three "epics" on disc 2 are the longest trio of songs on any Maiden album, but it's definitely Maiden and there's no doubting the quality of the songs presented. It's definitely more proggy than a lot of their more recent work, but I really like that they're not prepared to ride the coat-tails of their previous work and just churn out "The Trooper: Part 26".
I'm not going to go through every song here, but it is worth mentioning a few highlights...
As someone who has been a fan since NOTB, I wasn't totally convinced by The Writing On The Wall. It was too different on first, second and third listen. In the context of the album, however, it somehow fits really well and having now listened to Senjutsu 4 or 5 times all the way through, it's becoming a favourite.
A couple of other songs on the album deserve special mention, most so Death Of The Celts, which might be one of my favourite Maiden Epics. Top spot will always be Rime, but DOTC is exceptionally good, building slowly before settling in to a lilting rhythm that definitely has a medieval vibe. So is The Parchment, which definitely doesn't feel like it's 12 minutes long.
Days Of Future Past is the closest thing to an old-school Maiden song. Short and snappy. It's almost alone in that regard on this album, but that makes it stand out. It's almost Maiden by numbers, but it's still GOOD.
Going back to the classic albums of the 80s, there are songs that I happily skip from NOTB and POM, but there's nothing obviously skippable on Senjutsu. Everything hangs together really well, which is no mean feat considering how long they've been doing this.
I didn't have high hopes for a new Maiden album, and pre-ordered with some sense of trepidation. I needn't have worried, Senjutsu is a very good album, one that you will need to listen to a few times before you get just how good it is. It's not classic Maiden, but it's going to be an album that will be held up as an example of just how good they can be.
If you love Maiden, then you've probably already bought this. If you don't love Maiden, then Senjutsu still deserves a listen - it's Maiden, but different enough to draw in new fans.
