A Regency Romance. Tenth Anniversary Edition

Unless Philip, Lord Pemberton, could arrange a six-month marriage he would lose his inheritance. But how could he find a respectable young lady to go along with such a scheme?

Madeline Delaware was desperate to escape from her dissolute uncle and Philip's offer saved her from the fate her uncle had in store for her.

But the six-month marriage turned out to be far from the peaceful interlude that Madeline had envisaged. And although it was simply a convenient arrangement, she found it increasingly difficult to think of its end . . .

Amanda Grange: Humour, adventure and romance, with a guaranteed happy ending.

I really loved Phillip and Madeline's story. This is my second Amanda Grange book and so far this author has not let me down. Her writing style is phenomenal; her stories always with an interesting, unique plot. "The Six Month Marriage" is no exception. Madeline and Phillip are such wonderful characters, well developed and relatable.

Madeline, who is almost 21, is at her Uncle's mercy. He is her guardian and is determined to sell her off in marriage to a most unscrupulous suitor in order to cover his mounting debt. One night he has her dressed in a most unladylike manner and drags her off to the theater to meet this suitor. Madeline is able to effect an escape and runs off into the night where she is ultimately saved by Phillip, an Earl.

Phillip is in need of a temporary wife in order to secure his inheritance. His father's will includes a stipulation that if Phillip marries his chosen bride, a woman of whom Phillip's father does not approve, his inheritance will go elsewhere. In order to get around this stipulation Phillip must find a woman who is agreeable to a marriage of convenience for six months. At the end of such time, so long as the marriage has not been consummated, Phillip will claim his inheritance, have the marriage annulled, and marry Leticia, his intended.

Phillip proposes that Madeline marry him for six months at the end of which time he will give her a house and a generous annual annuity. Madeline is very distrustful of men and marriage after having been at the mercy of her cruel Uncle and having witnessed her father's cruel, demeaning treatment of her mother. It is her intent to never marry so as not to put herself under the control of another man. However, she ultimately agrees to Phillip's proposal thinking that because he needs her in order to claim his inheritance he will treat her well.

During the period of their marriage, the two fall in love. The path to their HEA is fraught with danger from villains who are looking for Phillip's friend, a spy for the crown, and by Phillip's former intended, Leticia, a cold, snooty woman who is determined to become Phillip's countess at whatever cost.

The relationship between Phillip and Madeline is extremely sweet and touching. Phillip is very protective towards Madeline and gradually falls deeply in love. This is a sweet, clean romance. I highly recommend. Another great read from Amanda Grange! I borrowed this book from the Kindle Owner's Lending Library, but I may have to purchase it as I hated to return it!

[Update: 4/17/14] OMG! I got a notification saying that my review had been helpful, so I decided to check it out. Imagine my delight when I realized this book is on sale for .99 cents! I just bought it. I'm so happy! This one is a definite reread for me! Love it!

I love marriages of convenience and seeing the couple fall in love within their arrangement. There is just something so romantic about it. This book was satisfactory. Very clean read. I have a hard time finding books that are not filled with sex scenes, and this book was perfect. The writing and story is engaging.

It was just an ok read; the plot had potential but in the end felt flat. Characters were not very well developed and the story was quite predictable with the usual twists of these types of novellas.
Overall a sweet regency, ok for a fast read especially for those who like clean stories, but nothing to remember.

The Six Month Marriage by Amanda Grange is a clean, predictable Regency period romance.

This short, quick read begins well with angst, action and a lovely damsel in distress (Madeline Delaware). Enter a handsome hero (Phillip Rockdale, Earl of Pemberton) to save said damsel from her wicked guardian. With the unfolding of the plot, the writing slows a bit, but still maintains a steady pace through spy plots and the ire of a wicked woman scorned, all leading to the desired HEA.

This was not a book I will remember forever or read again, but it was a nice one day diversion.

I really enjoyed this regency story of Madeline who is determined not to marry because of the way her father treated her mother and her uncle treated her. Lord Pemberton must marry for at least six months to receive his inheritance. He wants to marry Leticia, a woman who he thinks will be the perfect Countess, but his father has stipulated in the will that in order to inherit, he must be married for six months and it cannot be to Leticia. Philip thinks he has found a way around the will by being married for six months and then getting an annulment so he can marry Leticia. When Lord Pemberton saves Madeline from a threatening situation and her cruel uncle, he offers her a six month marriage, just long enough so that he can receive his inheritance. This story is full of love and intrigue. The characters are well fleshed out and enjoyable. Although Madeline has been cowed by her father and uncle, she still has spirit and won't let anyone walk all over her. Philip is the perfect hero who is patient and kind and willing to help Madeline get over her fears. This is a clean, enjoyable read. I'll definitely buy other books from this author.
