I have decided that my next few kindle books will be the complete (to date) cosy mystery series written by Steve Demaree and starring Cy Dekker and Lou Murdoch as the 2 main detectives. There are 1o books in the series, and I had read 4 in the past, not always in order, so now I will read all 10 in the correct order. If I haven't already reviewed them, I will write a review as I finish them.
52 Steps to Murder is the 1st book in the series. I initially read it a couple of years ago and could remember enjoying it. My memory did not prove me false; it is an excellent story. As previously mentioned, it is a cosy mystery - so you can expect no sex, no swearing and very little violence. This series also has the added ingredient of being very funny. Cy and Lou are good main characters, who are aware of their shortcomings but are always prepared to do their best - whatever faces them. The two detectives are Christians, but the book avoids being preachy and the author knows how to tell a good story. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a cosy mystery.

Sobre o Autor
Steve Demaree has always loved mysteries from the time he was a child. While he did not become an author until his early fifties, he has made up for lost time and has written twenty-six books so far, most of them mysteries with humor, but no profanity, sex, or gore. He continues to write a couple of books a year.

Disappointing.

Characters OK, but slightly improbable. I wasn't put off by their (& the author's) obsession with food, it was in character for them, but I found the plot overly complicated. There is no attempt to explain how a homeless person ended up in an underground area accessed only from the houses above (or why, come to that the houses had doors into the underground area). He seems to be there only as a distraction, I like all the loose ends to be neatly tied up at the end of the book & Mr Demarre seems to have a habit of leaving them dangling. I downloaded & read another of his Dekker books, before reading this one, they were both free at time of download, but I won't be trying any more. Also although it may have gone through a spellchecker it doesn't appear to have been proofread.

Not The Least Bit Amusing To Me
Avaliado no Reino Unido em 21 de maio de 2014Compra verificada
I deleted this only 4% in. It wasn't what I expected at all and was a comedy, really, as opposed to the serious murder mystery I'd hoped for.
On almost the first page someone was ringing their hands as well....not a great start for me, either.
To think a policeman would go into a home where somebody has just found a relation's dead body and to ask "who's your friend" referring to a policeman already sitting with her I just found crass, not the least bit amusing or believable, I'm afraid. And then to take a candybar from his pocket and ask the grieving relative if she'd like a bite went beyond ridiculous for me and I packed it in there.

Most enjoyable

Not just another murder mystery but an enjoyable read with enough humour and a nod to growing old to lift this above the crowd.
Well written characters, great interaction and a satisfying puzzle that means this is a series to savour and enjoy.

A great crime mystery

The comical duo Cy and Lou kept me chuckling all through the book. I could quite clearly see the two huffing and puffing up the 52 steps on more than one occasion and I didn’t manage to work out who committed the murders. It was a total surprise when revealed. I enjoyed 52 Steps to Murder and will definitely read more of Steve Demaree’s books. If you enjoy a good mystery I recommend this one.
