Massive quakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions will decimate the Earth. The ancient Keepers of Akosh can do nothing to prevent the catastrophes. They have known since the sinking of Atlantis that the living world would re-awaken, so they spent thousands of years terraforming a primitive world to serve as a sanctuary for the refugees. Now the Gathering begins.

The world of Lantamyra has another population of refugees—dragons. The keepers shared secrets of crystal power with them, which accelerated their evolution giving them powerful telepathic minds. Stranded for millennia, the dragons cannot open an inter-dimensional doorway to their homeworld until more crystals are added to the array in the Crystal Chamber.

For centuries, the Keepers of Akosh brought small groups of people from every continent on Earth to mine the crystals, tend the ancient gardens, and help terraform the land. The humans reside in three Great Houses ruled by the dragons.
.
Recently arrived from Earth, Tylya Lansing has been trained in the Secrets of the Ways and knows how to use the myra crystals that give her the power to move in extreme fast-time and speak telepathically. She is now a keeper of dragons in the House of Gaia Jade. Her knowledge of modern Earth makes her the best candidate to command the missions to find and retrieve the giant crystals of Atlantis before the quakes bury them deeper in the abysmal depths of the Atlantic Ocean.

The mission is not Tylya’s only concern. Her lover, Josh Hamilton, who came with her from Earth, is now a crystalseeker working in the mine at Queen’s Heart. Long exposure to raw crystals drains life from the body, but the most terrifying danger is waiting in the crystals to feed on him—the ghosts of previous seekers hungry for living energy.

5.0 de 5 estrelas A Tale of Two Worlds - My Review 17 de janeiro de 2014

I read the first book by Susan Waterwyk, Lantamyra; A Tapestry of Fantasy, a while back and gave it 4.5 stars. When Susan released the second book A Tale of Two Worlds, I knew I had to read it to find out what happens! I was not disappointed.

Synopsis (from the author): The Earth, once asleep, has awakened, from deep in her belly come cries; her mountains and valleys are shaken and seas rise up to the skies.”

The ancient Keepers of Akosh can do nothing to prevent the catastrophes. They have known since the sinking of Atlantis that the living world of Earth would awaken. Volcanic eruptions, earthquakes and tsunamis threaten the people of the Earth so the Keepers spent thousands of years terraforming the primitive world of Lantamyra to serve as a sanctuary for the refugees from Earth. Now the Gathering begins.

The dragons that rule the three Great Houses of Lantamyra need the giant myra crystals from Atlantis to strengthen the large array in the House of Gaia Jade to be able to return to their homeworld, Lanluong. The Keepers of Akosh authorize a mission to Earth to locate and retrieve the crystals before the earthquakes bury them deeper in the abysmal depths of the Atlantic Ocean.

Recently arrived from Earth, Tylya Lansing has been trained in the Secrets of the Ways and knows how to use the powerful myra crystals. She is now a keeper of dragons in the House of Gaia Jade, and her first-hand knowledge of modern Earth makes her the best candidate to command the mission to find and retrieve the lost crystals of Atlantis.

Tylya’s lover, Josh Hamilton is also from Earth and trained in the Ways but chose not to serve the dragons. He is a crystalseeker working in the mine at Queen’s Heart located near an active volcano. The job is extremely dangerous since long exposure to myra crystals causes crystal sickness, and worst of all, ghosts of seekers are hungry for living energy and they wait in the myra crystals to feed on him.

What I liked: Susan Waterwyk continues to develop her characters in a meaningful way. You can empathize with the losses and hardships they endure and the sacrifices each of the characters has made in order to allow someone else to follow their chosen path. The role of the dragons tantalizes the reader and allows the imagination to run with possibilities. Well-paced and easy to read, the book will appeal to those who like to think a little while they read.

What I didn’t like: There was very little about the book I didn’t like. Perhaps the only issue I had was that I would have liked the pace to be a little faster. I understand (as mentioned above about thinking while reading) why Susan Waterwyk wrote it as she did, but I personally still prefer more action and a quicker story.

Overall impression: Susan Waterwyk has crafted an excellent story. A Tale of Two Worlds is an excellent read and I look forward to the third book! I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy a little bit of fantasy, romance, and upheaval in two worlds!

This book is the sequel to Lantamyra: A Tapestry of Fantasy. I loved it! The main characters from the first book are present in A Tale of Two Worlds. Dragons, Crystal-keepers, wards of the dragons; all the characters that make the first book and this one so special. The Gathering begins in earnest in this book, gathering those people from Earth who are selected to receive sanctuary on Lantamyra, since Earth is beginning her change. All the while volcanoes, earthquakes and tsunamis are increasing on planet Earth.
The author has so many different characters in her books, but all have their own voice. I never raised my brow after reading a line of dialog, be the character a dragon, teenager on earth, a miner on Lantamyra: they all had their own special voice. My favorite scary part was when Josh was stuck in the mine, and the ghosts and *spiders* tried to deplete him of his energy. Spooky. As this book ends there are questions raised, but I'm willing to wait for the third book in this series. But please hurry! :)
3.0 de 5 estrelas This is the second in a series of three books ... 16 de julho de 2015

This is the second in a series of three books. The transition from the first book to the second wasn't very smooth. THere are teasers that were put in that were very disjointed and didn't make a lot of sense. The third book I assume will clear that all up. At the end of the book it said the 3rd book would not be out until 2014. This is 2015 so I went to the Facebook page and commented. The author got back to me and said it would be out probably next year. Disappointing to say the least. The author has some interesting viewpoints on earth.

5.0 de 5 estrelas Susan Waterwyk is a master storyteller! 7 de abril de 2014

This is actually the second book in the Lantamyra series; but, as the author states in her note at the end of the book it's not really a series. Each book can be read as a stand alone, but questions left will be answered in the next. The first book, Lantamyra: A Tapestry of Fantasy introduces you to the utopian world of Lantamyra. The third book will be The Prize of the Survivors. This second book is a bridge between the extreme differences from book one to book three. I haven't read the first book yet, but will definitely be picking it up and can't wait for the next book to come out!

In my opinion, Susan Waterwyk is a master storyteller! She creates a world with such imagery that it's easy to get sucked right into the story and feel like a participant instead of a spectator. With the amount of world building and imagery the author puts out there, this book is not fast paced; to me, the story is paced perfectly. You will be forced to think while reasing. I loved everything about A Tale of Two Worlds; there isn't really anything negative for me to point out. Of course, when I first read the last sentence I was like "What?! This can't possibly be all there is." and low and behold I get to the "Note from the Author" where she explains how it was to be one big book, but instead was broken into three smaller books. Whew!!

The characters, including the dragons, are so well developed, that you can almost hear the dialogue as you are reading it and, while romance is not the main focus of the story, there are elements here and there. The Doublejack/Lexi/Katie triangle...that should be interesting to see how it plays out. I can't say that I am rooting for one guy over the other because they are both really great. Tylya and Josh dealing with the changes that their mind expansion has brought on; trying to figure out if there is enough of their old selves left in them to make a relationship work.

They know what changes the earth is going to go through; do they bring their families to Lantamyra for sanctuary? Does Katie finally choose one guy over the other? Can Josh and Tylya make it work? Can the dragons really go back to Lanluong (their homeland)? Can Josh trust the ghost of Tahkar to help him find a giant crystal to appease the Queens and help them to stabilize the Crystal Chamber?

I was left with all those questions at the end of the book, but breathe much easier knowing there is another on it's way! This book is good for all ages and lovers of fantasy.
