Sobre o Autor

Julie Kagawa moved from Sacramento to Hawaii at the age of nine. There she learned many things: how to bodyboard, that teachers scream when you put centipedes in their desks, and that writing stories in math class is a great way to kill time. Her teachers were glad to see her graduate. Julie now lives in Louisville, Kentucky, with her husband and pets. She is the international and New York Times bestselling author of the Iron Fey series.

Caitlin Davies is a New York City-based actor and audiobook narrator. She has performed in New York and regional theaters and has studied acting at the Eugene O'Neill National Institute, the British American Drama Academy, and the Barrow Group. Always a lover of books, she decided to combine her English degree and her acting experience and took director Paul Ruben's audiobook narration class. She immediately fell in love with the medium and one week after completing the course was hired for her first audiobook. Just a few weeks later she was hired for her second. She specializes in audiobooks for teens and young adults.

MacLeod Andrews is an actor, voice actor, and audiobook narrator. He has narrated dozens of audiobooks, earning eight AudioFile Earphones Awards and placing as a finalist for the prestigious Audie Award for best narration in 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, and 2015. He is a company member of Rising Phoenix Repertory in Los Angeles.

Chris Patton has narrated over seventy-five audiobooks. His voice can be heard narrating such titles as Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, the dystopian juggernaut Yesterday's Gone, Clive Barker's Books of Blood series, and two titles by Joyce Carol Oates. Chris began his career in theater at age ten, and his voice-over career at twenty-nine. Since then, he has voiced over two hundred anime titles, numerous commercials and e-learning and industrial projects, and several video games. He's also fronted a synthpop band called Paul Lynde Is Dead, written a teen urban fantasy about an emo vampire called Scene Immortal, and has appeared as a special guest at more than eighty-five pop-culture conventions.

3.5*** I found this book to be wonderfully imaginative, while the dragon parts may have been second to the love triangle in the story, I feel the tone was being set and the world building was unfolding. I have hopes that the subsequent books are really going to ramp up the action, and bring on much more lore to the world of dragons, that walk among the humans.

Ember may have been a bit naive, but for a teenage girl this isn't far from reality. I really liked Garrett in the beginning and by the end I was routing for him to change his ways. I wasn't disappointed. I was very suspicious of Riley, but he grew on me throughout the story as well.

Ok let me start by saying, this is a decent book. Its not the best but it's decent.

I might spoil some things but i'll leave that in a separate section.

So lets start with the plot

Plot
------
You have 2 dragons (Ember and Dante) that are from this organization called "Talon". Talon is an organization for dragons, they're currently in war with this opposing faction called St. George.
The Ember Hill and Dante Hill is on their final part of the exam to "Graduate" the basics of talon. Throughout the book Ember was contemplating if she should run away from talon (making her a rouge) or stay.
Meanwhile you have 3 other characters that are introduced, Riley/Cobalt (yes he have 2 names), Garret, and Xavier.

Cobalt is a rouge dragon that been showing up randomly trying to bring people away from talon.

Garret is the perfect solider apart of St. George.
Xavier is Garret's partner in combat.

I don't want to explain the book plot too much (cause that would just eliminate the reasons of reading it)

*Spoiler*

Near the ending of the book (like I would say 20%), the author thought it would of been a fantastic idea to implement a love triangle.
Now if you read the book, you'll see that this love triangle is completely meaningless and it wasn't needed.

Another part that disappoint me (which this is the sole reason why i'm giving this book a 4 star) there was a major cliffhanger at the end how it shows Ember and Cobalt raiding the St. George base, which the author didn't properly continued in the 2nds book.

For some reason I find Julie's book repetitive in some areas which takes away from the main story line. All books do it too some extent but certain areas don't need to be dragged on. Does this deter me from the second book? Not at all. Even with the repetitive nature and slow spool up. At the end it's still enough to intrigue me into buying the second installment in this series.

I am a huge Julie Kagawa fan and love all her series so when this one came out I of course bought it immediately. I didn't read it for a long time though because of the negative reviews. I was afraid I wasn't going to like it and kept putting it off until I finally just sucked it up and read it. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I can understand why other readers didn't love it so much because it focuses more on romance rather than action unlike her other series. I still really liked it, the romance was believable and I love Garret and the other side characters and there were some great action scenes. I'm not going to lie and say it was unpredictable because there were things that I pretty much guessed easily but it didn't turn me away from the story. I think that so many fans of Julie Kagawa were disappointed that it wasn't her usual MO because she tends to write fast paced, action novels that are a little dark and not for the faint of heart and that is one of the reasons I love her series but this book was slower paced and focused a lot more on romance. I would have loved for this to have been a bit darker as weird as that is but (we are talking about dragons after all) it still captured my attention completely and I loved the characters and routed for Garret and Ember the whole way. I think the next books will be just as great and un-putdownable as this one. Julie writes so well and the story draws you in until you feel like you're there cheering the characters on. Looking forward to Rogue!

"Observe and blend in"

I read the first chapter a while ago, and have been on pins and needles to get this one ever since. I’ve loved everything I’ve read of Kagawa’s so far (The Iron Fey and Blood of Eden series) so a series about dragons from an author I love is hard to pass up. Did I mention DRAGONS?

Nothing but Sunshine
I haven’t read a book about dragons that can appear as humans yet, so this one was unique for me in that aspect. I’ve enjoyed the fantasy books that have to do with dragons and how they think so I’ve been looking forward to seeing this take on these huge mystical beasts. Ember and Dante are twins which never happens for the dragons. They are teenagers who are now being thrust on the human world from a life of isolation and training. Watching them adapt to their new environment (a beautiful beach setting) mingling with normal teenage humans was a fun experience.

The characters are well developed and easy to love. Ember is head-strong yet flexible. She forms her own opinions and then does what she thinks is right. Dante is the by-the-book, straight-laced one and actually quite boring, but truth be told, he’s not in the story a lot. The POVs are between Ember, Garrett, and Riley. Garrett is a disciplined soldier through-and-through and is forced to experience life as a normal boy through going undercover. Riley is the bad boy you can never tame with a soft side.

One of my favorite things to read is when enemies come together to fight a new enemy. I love seeing that adaptability that even though you are in a particular ‘group’, the individuals and the bonds formed matter more.

Flames Die Eventually
Oh the inevitable love triangle. It definitely makes an appearance. I also found some of the actions in Talon predictable.

Fire in the Heart, or Fire in the Soul
Ember has never had any sort of romance in her life since she mainly spent time with her brother and trainers growing up. She is now faced with two options who on the surface seem like they couldn’t be more different but deep down they both have the same drive to protect what they think is right. Both enemies to Ember, but both friends. One she is drawn to through her dragon side, and one through her human side. It seems apparent how this one will pan out in the end.

A Fiery Start, an Inferno in the Making
This is an excellent start to what is a must-read series for me. Talon kept my interest from beginning to end and I read it very quickly. The characters are easy to love, there’s plenty of action, and the setting is fun. The world and the groups of Talon and the Order of St. George are explained well. It all concludes in a way that I absolutely have to know what happens next. Very recommended.
