5.0 de 5 estrelas I'll be his ward! 31 de março de 2013

Rating: 4.5
Hotness Rating: 3 out of 5

The Low Down:
There's only three characters in this erotic shortie. There's Angelina, who's POV is how the story is written. There is Delilah or Lilah as her brother calls her. Delilah is Angelina's boss. The third person in this story is Morgan Ward, Delilah's brother.

At the emphatic urging of his mother and sister, Morgan ward has decided to throw himself a birthday party. It was to be THE PARTY of parties and everyone who was anyone was going to be there. Angelina, who's semi-stalkerish and gossipy nature delighted me, had been following all the news reports on the shindig. She never expected that she'd be a guest though.

The Characters:
As I stated earlier I found Angelina a thoroughly delightful character. She's a bit of a gossip but she seems amiable enough. She's extremely happy with her position as Delilah's assistant but to tell you the truth she's a little to devoted to her boss IMO.

Delilah on the other hand is a cold-hearted and calculating bee-itch. Her behavior and attitude was clearly snobbish but her deviousness was hidden till the end. I really liked the contrast between Delilah and Angelina.

I found Morgan kinda infuriating. His behavior kept changing. He was hot and cold but when he was hot he was HOT!!!

The Writing:
The writing in this was smooth and easy to follow despite the fact that the story is written in the first person. It also seemed as if Angelina was talking to herself but I found that endearing LOL.

The Plot:
Though the story was short the plot, with all it's subtleties, was awesome. There were a few twists that were pretty cool and took me by surprise. I'm anxious to see what happens next as the story ended with a cliffhanger.

Cover Comments:
Don't let the cover deceive you. The plainness of it dos not reflect what lies behind it. I love how the ruby cuff link stands out.

Ward of the Vampire isn't quite like Kallysten's other vampire stories. The change, while minute, was refreshing and I definitely want to read more of this story. I wonder what Kally has in store for these guys!

3.0 de 5 estrelas Ward of the vampire, 3.5 stars, short glimpse of a novel or series? 2 de maio de 2013

I'm one of the few ones to rate this lower as 3.5 stars. This is my first book by this author. Told in first person, it is a fairly short story (50 pages) of a posh birthday party for the brother of the boss of our main character, Lina, and the events leading up to & the end of the party. It is basically setting up series or book to follow. Obviously the boss & said brother are vampires and there is a history there. I won't go into what is already described. The premise was good but there was lack of description of what the lead female, Lina, looked like. There was vague references to her as being curvy but nothing about her height, color of her skin, hair or eyes. I had a hard time capturing the essence of who Lina was except by what she told us in her inner dialogue which didn't help me "get" her at all. These small details help in a short story so the imagination can take it from there. It took away the immersion into the story for me. The interior of the homes were described better than she was! As for the male lead, I didn't get a real sense of who he was because of what happened but I was intrigued just the same. If I had those details, I would have enjoyed this more but it felt kind of lacking (perhaps this would be updated by the time it's read by others).
The story itself was fine but left with the story unfinished. It isn't a cliff hanger - rather more like the end of a chapter or the first act of a play. It did catch my attention though and I'm likely to check out the next one if it's not overly expensive like some shorts or series can be. This one was free so I do not want to be overly critical because of that and it is not finished. I can't fairly rate something without the whole story. There was one "love" scene, not overly done, and there is a slight mystery hinted at. Kallysten is a good writer but in this story somethings need to be added to add depth & bonding with the heroine. That alone would raise my rating higher to a 4 star. I'd recommend if you don't mind waiting for the next ones. I don't like to wait & would rather have the entire story at one time. I did like it though.

Be careful what you wish for, it might just happen but not exactly how you would like it too. Being at the party of the year is one thing but not being able to leave is another. Delightful read that keeps you right there on the edge wanting more. Part one of five.
4.0 de 5 estrelas Good, but tone too distracting for me 5 de setembro de 2016

I give "Ward of the Vampire" four stars as it does flow along, however Luna, the heroine, narrates as if the setting is in the Victorian era rather than a time close to our present. While Kallysten does not indicate a precise period, she does say 'drive', 'fly', and certain fashion styles which could put it maybe from 1930s forward, but I get more of a Jane Austen feel. It distracts me. This first installment is very short and follows its description. If you like steam, though, it's a quick boil - no waiting there. There isn't enough incentive for me to want to continue the series, however. I got this as a freebie, so I'm not complaining.

This review is for all three books...

This is one addictive series...I'm totally hooked and its all Liz @ Fictional Candy's fault. I saw her reviews for these books and just loved them. It wasn't just her written words that drew me in, it was the covers too...very sexxy. The Ward of the Vampire series if you have not read it, is a collection of novella's revolving around Angelina and her very reluctant warden Morgan Ward.

When I say I literally read all three books in one day...I really did. The story-line was very good and quite interesting. I mean to be held basically captive in a sexy vampires house...wait I mean mansion. I don't know if a girl should be happy or mad as hell.

But in Angelina's case...she's mad until she starts falling in love with her unwilling warden.

This story? wow. I don't even know what to say really. I just absolutely loved it. It all starts with Angelina being "compelled" not to leave Morgan Ward's house on the night of his big birthday bash by his sister...her boss. I mean she literally CANNOT leave this man's house and if she does...she dies! And folks, it all kind of takes off from there. Angelina finds out that vampires really do exist and as scared as she is...she's very attracted to Morgan and he's attracted to her too.

In books 1&2, Angelina and Morgan are trying to feel one another out. They're both in a situation where they have no control over whats happening to them and it's seriously wearing on both their nerves. The tension between these two was ridiculously thick. And O...M...F..G! those hot sex scenes that were only...shit I can't tell. But let me just say this, if "I" was Angelina, I would NOT be too happy either...well maybe satisfied, but definitely not happy!

With the first two books, I was Angelina's champion because Morgan was...no, he is something of ass towards her...the girl couldn't seem to get on this mans good side. But by the time I got to the third book where her parents (who basically force themselves on her and NYC) come to visit her, I have to say that I was on team Morgan...I thought Angelina switched roles. To me she became that little boy in your third grade class who likes you "a whole lot", but doesn't know how to handle it, so he picked fights with you? Yup...that's what I thought of her. I know she was frustrated because things aren't exactly going her way..but to be acting all stank? ..not cool man...not cool. Morgan didn't do an exact 360 with his attitude, but he was way nicer to her than she was towards him.

There is more to this story that you dear reader will have to "read" to find out. Even I have questions with lots of unanswered answers. What game are Delilah (Morgans crazy "sister') & maker call themselves playing? what point are they trying to prove? I found out that their ultimate plan is to...nawh, wait I can't tell you..hehehe. Read the books..yeah, I just did that. The books are short and super fast to get though and hell, they're all .99 cents.

Now I have to wait until October read what happens next with our reluctant couple. And as impatient as I can be, I can't wait...I need to know now. So Kallysten, you need to push the release date a little further up. Am I being pushy? Maybe, but damn...this series is like good weed. Got you all relaxed, but paranoid as hell to get your hands on more!
