What a long way back an fourth this super group been far too say this album is still there best by a country mile...... 2018 I'm writing this an boy it is still sounds magical every tune is absolutely brilliant can safely say no other rhcp album is like that...... This album is a must have for any serious collecter of vinyl even if you don't like them if any rhcp album is going to test the sands of time this is it if you are new to there music start from scratch an get this beautiful album first..... Five stars easily
Bought this on vinyl . Played the first half of the album and it genuinely does sound fantastic on vinyl . Unfortunately, the second half of the album on disk 2 was damaged. The hole is massively oversized and couldn’t seat the record central on the platter. Ordered a replacement straight away and I am hoping the second copy is better. The most disappointing thing to me is that I think someone has already returned this record as the internal sleeve was damaged and the record wasn’t fitted into the sleeve correctly. Unfortunately the quality of vinyl I seem to buy from amazon recently is not that great for various reasons. I hope this is just coincidence as the records turn up in excellent packaging and the returns service is very good.
I think this edition (the one cut by Vlado Meller) is a strong perhaps 4.5 but since there is no way to rate it so i will rate it a 5. Sound could have been improved a bit but it's nice that it's well distributed in 2 discs instead of them trying to cramm it all in one disc as it has happened with other albums and it's also basically dead quiet wax, which, given some recent releases i would consider it a blessing. It's also nice that it's a gatefold cover since the californication edition that is supposed to be the best one out there wasn't even given a proper gatefold cover. I played this a few weeks ago and i don't entirely remember but i think the inner sleeves are not too good, they probably require at least a complimentary set of inner plastic sleeves since i think these were just coarse paper sleeves. Back to the sound i would say that it's a bit flat and dynamics don't really shine much, but it's even and it sounds enjoyable for itself. Hopefull one day it will get a special treatment and we will be enjoying the definitive edition with as much dynamics popping out as possible. Any way, if you consider this album a must-have, this edition might just do it for you.
Only arrived yesterday. I know the album well from CD but have recently been buying vinyl instead. When I saw I could get this album on vinyl for about £12, including postage, it was a no-brainer.
I am not disappointed. There is such a difference. I have to admit I don't have a great CD player and I do have a brilliant turntable. I have several albums on CD and vinyl, normally there's an improvement (in my opinion) but for this album there was so much more depth and detail from the vinyl. The pressing is clean, the vinyl is heavy (180g?) and it's just wonderful.
Is this the best Red Hot Chili Peppers Album. Yes I think so. Although recorded 17 years ago still sounds fantastic. It has a few of my favourite tracks. “By the Way, the Zephyr Song. For new fans this is the album to listen to first. Enjoy it’s fabulous
Disgusting!! I ordered this CD as a birthday present for my son, it had been wrapped and sealed when opening it and playing the CD there was a CD from the daily mail which has old Motown music on.. NOT red hot chilli peppers which is what I payed for, this is a disgusting con!!
Revisiting this brilliant album, for me their first great album. Possibly their very best if judged by consistently excellent material and delivery throughout? The RHCP unique sound and Anthony's unique voice encapsulated here. Superb.
The album art is printed well, showing full colours and is enlarged well. The pressing itself sounds good. It highlights the drums and doesn't over saturate any elements, unlike the CD. Aside from the very end of Tear, I didn't get any inner groove distortion. My only major complaint would be the dodgy sleeves, which can be cheaply replaced. Apart from that, I would recommend!
