Descrição do produto

Stop rushing into businesses born from half-baked ideas, misguided theories, and other forms of self-delusion. A lack of proper validation kills more businesses than anything else. As Joel Barker says, “Speed is only useful if you’re running in the right direction.” Will It Fly? will help you make sure you are clear for takeoff. It answers questions like:
-Does your business idea have merit?
-Will it succeed in the market you’re trying to serve, or will it just be a waste of time and resources?
-Is it a good idea for you?
-In other words, will it fly?

Chock-full of practical suggestions you can apply to your business idea today, Will It Fly? combines action-based exercises and real-world case studies with anecdotes from the author’s personal experience of making money online, hosting successful podcasts, testing niche sites, and launching several online businesses.

Will It Fly? will challenge you to think critically, act deliberately, and dare greatly. You can think of the book as your business flight manual, something you can refer to for honest and straight-forward advice as you begin to test your idea and build a business that takes off and soars.

In five parts, Will It Fly? will guide you through the validation of your next business idea:
-Part one, Mission Design, helps you make sure your target idea aligns with and supports your goals.
-Part two, Development Lab, walks you through uncovering important details about your idea that you haven't even thought about.
-Part three, Flight Planning, is all about assessing current market conditions.
-Part four, Flight Simulator, focuses on the actual validating and testing of an idea with a small segment of a target market.
-Finally, Part five, All Systems Go, is for final analysis to help you make sure your idea is one you are ready to move forward with.

Enfim, recomendo fortemente!

2.0 de 5 estrelas The genius of this book is not in the book but in the why this book. 29 de maio de 2016
Por Javier Romero - Publicada na Amazon.com
Formato: Capa comum Compra verificada
I've been listening Pat's podcasts for years, I love the guy. Pat's brand is all about being genuine and to offer value however I was really disappointed with the "Will it Fly" book. Pat's book's launch was so well orchestrated and convincing (he's a master marketer/promoter) that my expectations were high.

Although Pat had explained, in his book launch strategy podcasts, how he was planning to get many positive reviews using the community he created to help him with the book (a promotion strategy I find a bit questionable but one that obviously has worked) and he had also said many times that it's ok to reuse material because "people will pay for convenience," I still believed that the book would deliver something new, but when I finally read it I was disappointed. Most of the content was recycled from his podcasts. The book's bottom line is "hey make sure you test your idea and that the people you tested with vote with their dollars", that's pretty much it.

Something that bothered me were the links in the book and even in the online exercises to promote it in social media, it felt like one of those e-books loaded with affiliate marketing links, but there is also an innovative marketing tactic to learn from here and is not in the book, it is about the book. Pat is really using the book to launch and to entice subscribers to his new venture, his new online course venue (Pat explained it in his podcast). This whole "Will it Fly" book is about testing and/or promoting/building his new business idea. Nothing wrong with that but it feels a touch deceiving. Sorry Pat, just trying to be honest here. Most of Pat's income comes from affiliate marketing and sponsorships and his next logical step was to create his own products, courses in this case. Pat's marketing genius at work. I learned more from this innovative marketing strategy than anything else in the book.

To be fair if you never listened to Pat's podcasts or read his blog or have no clue about online business this book will inspire you and take you in the right direction but if you have been following Pat for a while, like I have, you'll be disappointed.

Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Javier

4.0 de 5 estrelas pilots have to determine the best way to get there safely 12 de abril de 2017
Por Ian Mann - Publicada na Amazon.com
Formato: eBook Kindle Compra verificada
I have read a number of quality books on the issues to be probed, the question to asked, and the considerations to be made before starting a new venture, written for astute business people with experience. As such, they all lacked one element: empathy with first-time, would-be entrepreneurs. This book fills that lack, and as such is an important contribution.
The author, Pat Flynn is not another founder of a “Unicorn”, a company worth over a billion dollars, who is sharing his insights on how to start another Tesla, Facebook, or PayPal. Rather he is a young, married, father of two, who lost his job in the down-turn, and became an entrepreneur. His book is down-to-earth, his examples are folksy and his insights sound. He provides a step-by-step guide to ascertaining if the business you are thinking of starting “will fly.” There are exercises for every step, and they will provide important insight into your new business idea.
You will need to invest some time and effort in this preliminary process, but it certainly beats losing money, losing face, and losing credibility; those inevitably follows from not checking if your idea has potential.
The first section is the first step you should take as you think about your new business. This section is titled: Mission Design, and poses the starting question everyone should ask – will starting this business allow me to be the person I wish to be? This smacks of the question a counsellor might ask, that many would answer – I need money right now, and I will have plenty of time to worry about the quality of life when I cruise the Mediterranean on my yacht.
“If you don’t have a passion for what you are doing, your energy will eventually fizzle out. It always does,” Flynn notes.
Entrepreneurs’ earnings will be closely related to how much they care about the people they are serving, and the services they offer. Will it accord you the lifestyle you want, the relationships you value, and self-fulfilment that is lasting? Remember, you haven’t invested one cent in this business so far, and if it just isn’t you, then you are well advised to keep looking for something that is. After all, “a successful entrepreneur is one who is both successful in business and in life,” Flynn asserts.
The next step is “Flight Planning.” Besides knowing where you want to go to, pilots have to determine the best way to get there safely, comfortably, and on time. “NASA has never launched a mission just because it sounded like a good idea, and neither should you,” Flynn writes. This section is your market research and the exercises Flynn recommends, can easily be adapted to any market you wish to serve.
This will take you some time, but the tools and the guidance are all in the book. There really is no hurry to get started right away, as futurist Joel Barker says: “Speed is only useful if you’re running in the right direction.”
As part of your Flight Planning, you will want to uncover important information about your ideas, that you have not even thought about. In this phase you need to assess the current conditions of the market you are aiming at, see who is already there, and what and who you are up against. You will also be able to identify the part of the market you are best able to service, and the best way to target the market. (Hint: how are the successful in this market targeting it? How are the less successful targeting it?)
If there are already others in the arena you wish to enter, you have an advantage over everyone else who is already there. You have a live laboratory of what is missing, which is critical because it suggests opportunities that exist.
Flynn provides guidance through a few targeted exercises to identify the dissatisfaction and struggles your target customers experience. This will enable you to enter the market and serve it better than the incumbents. Focusing on a small market is a much under-estimated advantage – there are riches in the niches.
You need to keep this image in mind (and make the translation to your product or service.) If you are a musician with a thousand true fans, they will purchase anything and everything you can produce. “…they’ll drive hundreds of miles to watch your next gig. They read every post, watch every video, and listen to every word of your podcast because it’s a part of their daily ritual. They are the ones who have truly fallen in love with what you have to offer the world, and will always be there to support you.”
After you have completed the Flight Plan, it is time to enter the Flight Simulator. Here you can amalgamate what you have discovered in your research, and begin the process of validating and trying your ideas on a small, safe, segment of the market you are targeting. This activity of validating alone will distinguish you from most entrepreneurs, who never take the trouble to go through this stage with real customers. With Flynn to guide you, you will attempt to make your initial sales to this small, safe, segment of the market. Real validation! Going big and loud with the wrong offer has caused harm, that many entrepreneurs never recover from.
If you haven’t taken any meaningful action towards your new venture because you don’t know where to start, or what process you need to follow, you are not alone. No one wants to let themselves or others down. But as John F. Kennedy once said, “There are risks and costs to action. But they are far less than the long range risks of comfortable inaction.”
I like the light tone of this book, it is an easy read, neither preachy nor academic, and very practical. The exercises are easily accomplished, with less effort and more pleasure than you expect.

5.0 de 5 estrelas great starting point for any budding online entrepreneur 31 de janeiro de 2016
Por Alex Tran - Publicada na Amazon.com

tl;dr
anyone looking to start an online business should buy this book, do the exercises in it, and save yourself a lot of wasted time, energy, and resources down the road.

the strength of this book is that it is very practical. it provides step-by-step exercises to help you brainstorm ideas, narrow them down, and validate them. it's not just the why and what, but the how as well. the exercises are terrific and extremely insightful. and i like that pat does them alongside us. it was helpful to see how he processed things.

the book reminds me of an "art lessons for non artists" class i took once where the instructor gave us simple steps (e.g., paint the top section blue, draw some dark vertical lines here, etc.) and the next thing you know i've got a couple walking through the forest in the rain. impressive for a guy whose previous specialty was stick figures.

what i like is that anybody (regardless of business experience) can walk away from the book confident they have a viable business idea people are willing to pay for.

who is this book for?

- you're a budding entrepreneur looking to start your first online business
- you have ten ideas in your head but don't now which to focus on
- you suffer from paralysis by analysis (like myself)
- you want to be confident people will pay for your idea

who is this book not for?

- you're not ready to do the work (certain exercises will require a lot of hustle on your part)
- you're well read in the "how to start an online business space" (while some of the exercises are unique, you'll probably have read most of what pat shares already)
- you're an experienced online entrepreneur with at least two successful businesses (this book is more for newbies)

i highly recommend any new entrepreneur read this book. you will find few online entrepreneurs with as much experience as pat flynn. if you're going to start an online business, there's no better person to learn from than pat.

I read through this book twice as part of a pre-launch "team" set up by Pat and a collaborator of his.

The kid anecdotes were kind of too "squishy-warm" for me. They almost alienated me. They may touch base with others who are motivated by wanting to spend more time watching their kids grow and develop or being at home with the wife and family more, but they made me, a non-father, non-family man, feeling kind of left out. My motivations for doing what Pat suggests are quite different. If you have kids or want to spend more time with the family, then you may connect with the anecdotes. I did not, found most of them over-explained and in need of editing.

On the other hand, some of what he relates concerning his experience in the "office" world, as well as some of his experience with his own growing business were somewhat "inspiring". Funny how the one that best stuck in my mind came from a rather unpleasant-sounding boss he had had-- funny because, in the end, those of us who would want to read this kind of book would be doing so to get away from just that type of boss.

When the book finally gets to the exercises, these are pretty basic pedagogy. I found a couple of them kind of 1980s "new age", others were almost infantile, all of them are valid and can be valuable to those new to getting themselves organized (especially useful will be the material on using spread sheets to keep track of research done); however, for those who already know how to organize themselves, how to set attainable objectives and program those objectives into the larger goals they wish to achieve, you will find yourself skipping over activities suggested in the book and perhaps wondering if it was worth the $15 it cost you.

The language is easy to read, sounds like Internet "8th grade level" content writing, the bane of blogs, left me feeling I was being talked down to, as if I could not possibly understand a word with more than three syllables. Unfortunately, this is the expected these days and I am not blaming the author for "keeping it simple", just pointing out that if you're looking for sophisticated information, this book is not going to be the source. It's meant to walk general readers through a process, with an easily understood metaphor (that paper airplane) backed up by the cute, heart-warming story of being a good father to a small boy. Again, squishy-warm.

I haven't seen the "linked" version, but if it is true what other critiques have mentioned, well, uggh. The exercises are hands-on and over-linking is becoming another Internet "sin" (along with that 8th grade level lore content writers not only believe but practice). Another aspect mentioned by other critiques is the feeling that the book needed a "cooling off" period.... I believe it should have been set aside for a couple of months and then thoroughly edited to shave off some of the chaff, tighten up the narrative and add a bit of sophistication that, for me, it lacks.

I've followed Mr Flynn for about a year, have used some of his ideas myself and found them valid. This book, though, is not the best of Pat Flynn. I was disappointed by the pre-launch activity, way too much use of the word "great", suggestions of buying a book I'd already read twice, suggestions of buying several copies of it, feeling, once more, alienated when offering criticism instead of oozing excitement and praise in an almost blind, following way. That so many have given this book five stars kind of shows that same. This is not a five-star book. It's okay, it can be useful, even inspirational (if you've got kids!), but it's not the cat's meow.

Pat Flynn seriously is the homie. No, for real this guy has gone to the future & came back to the books labs w/ some GOLD.

I love what this book represents & that's the way that Pat does business. Authentic, genuine, passionate, compassionate, giving, & with authority bc he's practicing what he preaches. Pat seriously, thank you for being you & sharing your gifts with the world & our entrepreneurial community. The world is absolutely a better place with you here giving to all of us.

Oh, and be sure to make the paper airplane when the exercise comes up. The little kid in you will thank me later. And if you're anything like me, it's a nice transition from the daily hustle of building a business... ;)

Cheers my friend!
