When I first bought a Kinect I hadn't appreciated how much space was required to use it, so although I consider I have a reasonable sized living room I found I had to push furniture out of the way so I could stand far enough away from the sensor. With the lens I can stand about 2ft closer to the Kinect which gives me a bit more room, but it's still a squeeze. Crucially, it's made the difference between keeping and selling the Kinect. The downside is as other reviewers have mentioned; there is vignetting of the image shown during sensor calibration and in game photos. I wonder if it may introduce tracking problems, but my room isn't big enough to do a comparison. I would recommend the lens if you really don't have enough room, but please be aware of the compromise.
I decided to order this Reduction Lens despite all the negative feedback on the hopes that the few positive feedbacks where true.
Luckily they were! I can't see why this gets so many bad reviews! The only thing i can imagine is that people are being ridiculous and expecting this to work miracles and allow you to use the Kinect in rooms no big enough to swing a cat!
I needed this because i the distance between the Kinect and our sofa was just a bit too short to be able to us the Kinect comfortably i.e when setting up the i.d recognition we were unable to stand on the back row of squares.
This product has solved this issue and works perfectly on all games we have tested so far, like other reviews say this has to be used below the TV i have it around 4ft off the ground. It does seem a bit more sensitive to lighting and the lens does reduce the quality of image the Kinect can capture and makes the sensors view in the box at the bottom right of the screen seem really off as if the Kinect cannot see as far right as it needs to but it doesn't seem to effect any navigation gestures and definitely doesn't effect gameplay what so ever, also sign in recognition works better than ever!
I would recommend this if you require slightly more room to play games then this is perfect, if you require a lot more room then you should have read the Kinect requirements before purchase!
I was advised to get this by a friend who purchased one herself. My front room is not huge & I'm unable to move sofas around like it suggests on the Xbox, so I bought this item which is meant to reduce the play space. The set up was really easy etc but I think I need to have a little play around with the positioning of the Kinect sensor on top of the T.V. My friends swears by the one she got so I think I just need to have a try again.
I purchased this product as my room is just a tiny bit too small and was firstly positively surprised as it seemed it will work just fine. It even worked fairly ok with Kinect Adventures. But the real downside become obvious with Nike Kinect Training where your field is defined by two lines between which you can jump without much effort (if you are not using ZOOM). However, as the ZOOM extends the field of view for kinect, the distance between lines enlarge to extent where it is impossible to jump from one to another and therefore you cannot play this game very successfully. So it is really down to the individuals, but generally the quality of motion tracking and gestures reduces.
Sadly I can only give ** for the product performance, while the product is overall build very well and it does not feel cheap.
This product didn't work for me because we have a wall mounted LCD with the kinnect on top, which puts it about 4.5 feet off the ground. This is too high for the recommended ~3 foot off the ground, which would mean I'd need to 'hang' it off the bottom of the LCD, which is tricky to do, so I've given up with it.
The item appears made to a high quality and I expect it would work well if I was able to shift it's height.
I know you are probably thinking what I was thinking. So confused with a lot of negative feedback and some good feedback. But I can tell you this thing works, and it works great! I can see where the complaints come from. I think the instruction could be a bit better. But as soon as you figure out, then this thing works perfectly!
Right, the problem is that it is a bit tricky to set up. Even I followed all the instruction, it didn't work the first time and you can't calibrate it with the zoom lens on with the calibration card.
I put it on then switched on the Kinect, it is just dark and couldn't see anything and like I said, you couldn't calibrate the kinect neither.
So what I did is to take the zoom off, switched on the kinect, stand on the 6ft distance where it can only allow one player which is also my limited distance ( can step back any further). Now make sure my Kinect works as how it is without the Zoom that it can only allow one player at 6ft distance. Once it works ok, switched off the xbox, put the zoom on the kinect and place it back to where it was. Then it works and works brilliantly! I would have given it a 5 stars, but because of this issue, I put it 4 stars. But don't worry, it work! Just make sure that your kinect is place between 2 to 4.5 ft height form the ground, not on top of the TV! Hope it helps ur misery! HA!
Brilliant bit of kit, fitted onto Kinect really easily and has made a massive difference to play - can now play on Xbox without banging into furniture! No adverse effect at all on the Kinect's ability to pick my movements up. I was especially impressed with the protective sticker that goes on the Kinect before the Reduction Lens - shows the company is really bothered about the quality of the product.
Wow. I am six feet tall so my 6yr older daughter and I couldn't play Kinect together because it couldn't see both of us at the same time. This device has changed all that and we have a great time now sharing Disneyland adventures or Pixar Rush, even in our tiny living room. It won't overcome Kinect's tendency to randomly interpret your waving in new and interesting ways, but it does let you play in a smaller room.
Living in your typical council semi, I was looking forward to using the Nyko Zoom to enhance my Kinect Sports experience. Unfortunately, it did not work as expected and made it impossible to achieve the scores required in some parts of the game (Calorie Challenge, for instance). I don't know why or how. After endless moving the Kinect around, recalibrating the sensor, trying the room lights on and off, the Nyko Zoom ended up back in its box. Avoid...
