There hasn't been anything Mariana Zapata has written that I haven't enjoyed reading. "The Best Thing" is no exception.
The beginning of this book got me a little confused, because you're just dropped in the middle of Lenny's day without much explanation to who is who or what the issues are. There are some surprises that I didn't see coming AT ALL. So read it paying attention!
As usual, we dive deep into the narrator's mind as Lenny guides us through her thoughts and possible reasons behind her actions. Abandonment issues and doubts about deserving to be loved are recurrent themes in Zapata's books, as well as deep and complex family relations.
Lenny is a judo athlete who manages Maio House, her grandpa Gus' gym. Jonah is a rugby player she met in France 17 months ago. I'll leave the plot at that. The surprises that come along the way are worth waiting for. If you've read "Luna and the Lie", you'll remember Luna, who appears in " The Best Thing" as Lenny's best friend.
One aspect that surprised me was the epilogue. I can only say it was unusual un terms of time passed. And with that small detail, which I hope will not spoil anything, I'll leave you my recommendation for this fabulous book. The editing is impeccable. There isn't a single misplaced letter, typo, or grammar mistake. I'm mentioning that because many books on Kindle, especially in the Romance genre, are published full of mistakes. Kudos to Zapata's editor and proof reader!
Every book that Mariana Zapata writes is great for me, this one was no exception! It was in fact beyond great.. Slow burn, funny as ever with wonderful characters I couldn’t put down! We get to know Lenny and her hilarious and beautiful family and Him... Well, you just have to read! Perfect written, your heart will be smiling or cursing or crying, passing through all emotions. Crying with happy tears for me was the perfect book!!!
I read all Zapata’s books and this one is one of my favorite (I always say the same thing when I finish any of her books), I laughed so much with The Best Thing and it was impossible to don’t cry with the last chapter.
