What to say about this book?? The author has excelled themselves in their ability to progress the story so far. I have read the two previous books. I have been seriously impressed at the author's ability to keep a complex story line going in detailed continuity and to maintain the engagement of the reader. Although I understand this should be a teenager book, that is rubbish! Everyone older than being a teenager should read this book too. It is highly detailed and takes you inside of the story, so you are experiencing it with the characters. I have a diploma at University level in Creative Writing and I am used to critically reading books. So far, I have found no slip ups in characters and thrust of story line, which the author Ransom Riggs, has maintained over three books. It is sublime and he is a very clever user of words. I highly recommend this book for anyone who enjoys something 'different'. I can't liken it to any other works as it is highly unique. It is absolutely worth an intriguing read. Read the previous two books first, so that you know what is going on. It is captivating and entertaining, word after word. No boring parts at all. It is very well paced. Not too slow, nor too breathy. Just right. Really can't recommend this serious of books enough. Definitely a page turner and author knows how to keep the reader hooked. All his characters are brought to life and his creativity in words and context and events is tremendous. Buy this book and the others too!
I read this a long while ago to writing this review (forgetful of writing reviews lol) This is a great piece of fiction about Mrs Perigrine and her peculiar children, you can imagine the kids going through and picturing the journey they are taking. The journey of the peculiar children, rattles through the ages, between wars to present time and finding out how it ends, great for a bit of indulgence and forgetting the real world for a day or two. As I said, I read this a while ago and can't remember fully the story.
This is a great end to the trilogy. The style and pacing continue right where we left it at the end of Hollow City, and in this one, we meet several new characters and several twists and turns.
This is a series of books that I've struggled to put down, and although it's nice to finish them there is part of me that wishes they hadn't. Luckily I discovered there are more books to come. I'll be reading them shortly, as you should be too.
i read the first book in this series quite a while ago, and for Christmas, i got the movie. i was highly disappointed though, because it was quite random and ignored key points in the book which produced a less rounded movie. However the book was very good. Book 2 was read a few months ago, and was fantastic, so hopes were high for Book 3. This book was quite slow to begin with with an unclear plotline. For most readers this would be satisfactory, but i always like to have some idea as to what is going to happen. When the book got started, i began to really enjoy it. The relationship between Emma and Jake was looked into deeper and gave the book more depth. Several plot twists threw you off track which was highly enjoyable from my point of view. The book was rounded up quite nicely, with the clear idea there would be another book (which i am currently reading) which is very exciting! Congrats on another great book Ransom Riggs!! :-)
This book took a while to get going and I thought that the twists and turns of the other books would become so far fetched that I would no longer enjoy this writer. I was wrong the second half of the book compelled me to read to the end making way for more stories of peculiars.
I have read all three in this sequence of books, and enjoyed them all. I also appreciated the sparseness in the narrative - we know all that is necessary and nothing more - no flowery bits to increase wordage. I have recommended these books to anyone who will listen, and have also, reluctantly, lent then to my daughter on strict instructions that they must be in good condition when returned!
An Amazing book that has left me wanting more. It was Ann incredible end to the series and is much better than the movies. The way that the author has written this book makes you feel like you are Jacob Portman and you sometimes feel kinda proud of Jacob because you watch a humble boy become a brave man (though he doesn't actually age 😆) and it is also a happy love story . Though the first book is a slow starter, once you get into it you are just dying to find out what happens next. This book is sometimes a little scary but that helps make u want to read on..... IT IS THE BEST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ(and I have read all of the hunger games, Harry Potters, divergents ,the hobbit , all of the David Walliams , the boy in the striped pyjamas and the Bellgariad series (if you have injoyed this series then u will like them too))
I enjoyed the books but, on a personal level, I do find it a bit of a con where authors split a story into multiple parts so you have to buy the next installment to reach the conclusion. This is a common practice these days & it does annoy me.
