Good book, easy to read and follow. Very interesting to see how lean concepts have been applied in this area. Although I do think the term "kanban" can often be replaced in the book with the more general "Lean", "Visual Management" or even "Continuous Improvement" as these are actually the umbrella concepts being applied and referred to throughout. So I feel "Real World Lean" or "Real World Visual Management" would have been more fitting as titles, with kanban being one of the key lean tools applied to promote pull, keep work in progress low and lead times at a minimum.
Book is ok - good to see real world Kanban situations - but lost a star from me due to the poor resolution of images/photos on the Kindle version - they are almost unreadable - even using the Kindle app on a Macbook Pro (retina). Schoolboy error. Did no-one proof read the Kindle transfer ??
Real World Kanban was a quick yet informative read on the subject of visual Kanban boards. The book offered several case study style use cases to help the reader understand how specific implementations have worked in the past. I would really describe the book as one that offers practical examples that worked rather than going into a lot of theory and concepts or offering a methodology or even enough teaching for one to implement on their own.
From my perspective the book is a great read for someone curious about Kanbans and their use and is open to becoming "sold" on the idea of their value. I would expect most to want more information than what is offered in this book before diving head first into a kanban implementation.
Not really practical unless you are looking to fine-tune an existing Kanban system. If you're already a lean/Kanban expert you may find the stories interesting and informative, but if you're starting from scratch this is a complete waste.
A very easy read in a couple of new nights to learn some different ways to implement kanban. Told through five case studies, focused primarily on software Dev teams but with one non IT example. Definitely sparked some ideas of how to start using the technique.
Recommended to me by a kanban instructor.Excellent follow up to my training because it focused on real life cases where kanban was applied. Thin and easy to read. Not a main course entree, but a lovely side dish.
