If like me you fell in love with Helena's writing after reading the Pucked series then you will also like me be super excited about getting to meet the next generation.
This one is filled with angst, drama, family, loyalty and friendship. With the perfect mix of past and present its a storyline that captures your attention from beginning to end and has you alternating between laughing and crying. Honestly my heart completely broke for Lavender and everything she had gone through.
Lavender is nothing like her parents, she's shy as a youngster, suffering with anxiety. With older brothers and their extended family she has a lot of over protective people surrounding her which is not always a good thing.
Kodiak has always felt connected to Lavender. When they were kids he always felt he was her protector. After their parents step in and separate them they drift apart and when they are older become enemies. Kodiak becomes the ultimate alpha as***ole when it comes to Lavender now she is at the same college as them.
As you read more of the past story you get to understand why Kodiak is the way he is. He has sky high walls that only Lavender will be able to tear own eventually but only once he shows her that he is worth it.
This book got me out of a reading funk and once i started i devoured it within a day. It was like a family reunion seeing some of my favourite characters from previous books that i have honestly missed. I can't wait to read the next book in the series
Wow wow wow!!! I've just finished reading and I already want to jump back in and start reading again!!! I've been looking forward to this book SO much and it didn't disappoint me one bit...infact it exceeded all my expectations. Once I got my head around who was who I was hooked... that Prologue just grabs you by ALL the feels and doesn't let you go until the very end of the book. The storyline tackles some hard hitting life changing issues but it is done so with respect and some great research helping you to feel what the characters are going through. Lavender and Kodiak have had a very close relationship since they were really small but when they become to rely on each other too much things start to change for them.... cue years later when they are all at university and unable to avoid each other it al kicks off yet again leaving us with a will they won't they relationship. Lavender is 100% her mums daughter... she's clumsy and hilarious in every way. Loved loved loved each and every character involved in this story and cant wait to read more by them all in time...also loved getting the catch ups with the previous Pucked guys too! If you want a story with so much angst emotions and heartache with a sparkling of happiness...hotness and fun then this is definitely the book for you!
Little Lies: every emotion, every feeling, an immense book hangover, in the best possible way. Helena writes emotion to carry you along on the journey with the characters. Tears were spilled more than once, but she also does some of the best comedic moments I've every read.
Lavender and Kodiak have a bond stronger than they understand at 4 and 6. They are beyond best friends, they share a deep connection and understating of each other.
But lives change whether you want them to or not. Now 19 & 21 they are both at university. Lavender is living on jock row with her bothers River & Maverick. Kodiak is just down the street with her cousin BJ Ballistic, and Quinn Romero. They haven't seen each other in over 2 years when their relationship went from bad to worse and hearts were broken.
Lavender is still the shy girl we met in the All In series but she grown in to sassy, strong young woman who knows what she wants and has learnt how to manage her anxiety. And chanel her determination to get it.
Kodiak on the other hand seems lost, hiding his torment with perfect grades, hockey and an abrasive personality. There were times I wanted to punch his pretty face, but as the story developed his pain became evident to more then just the reader.
I may can't recommend this book highly enough, it's the perfect mix of angst, passion and comedy. Sometimes all at once.
I don't know if its joining the ' Pucked' gang again or just the story itself, but I adored Lavender and Kodiaks story. If you've read the Pucked series, then you'll remember Violet and Alex from the first book, well Lavender is their wonderful, bright, caring daughter. It all starts with an event at the start of the book, in which something happens to Lavender when she's only six, what happened that day has a ripple effect that lasts for over a decade and leads to angst galore. its written beautifully. I went from feeling heartache, frustration, anger, love, everything, for all the people in this book. Helena is so clever, she just grips you and the attachment to the characters throughout is excruciating at times because you're so invested. Kodiak was a tortured soul, his treatment of Lavender was just awful, even though we knew he was killing inside, it still hurt to read. Again , brilliant writing. Their journey was hard fought but worth it. Lots of Helena's other book characters play a big part and it was great catching up, Kodiaks parents were from another book too. There's tons of kids to read about, some we met, Maverick, Aiden, the twins. Lots of great potential stories. Please Helena. you're my go to author, can't wait for your next one.
This is the first book I have read by this very talented author, and I’m sure it won’t be the last. It has every emotion about a very difficult subject. Anxiety. Two very tormented individuals Lavender, the youngest only girl of a family of two elder brothers and a twin brother River, has some very frightening ordeals that leave her scared for life. Kodiak a very close family friend tries from an early age to be her knight in shining armour, however the results in the earlier years are not so positive as they could be. There is every emotion in this book, as already mentioned. Tears , humour, passion, relationship issues, family dynamics, and most of all a totally believable story. It traps the reader, and drags you in immediately. It has suspense, as well as some really bitchy characters which one might expect in a younger age group character, but it also has a loyalty and feel good factor that balances those moments. Will I read another story by this author, based on this novel. For sure. It is very well written, edited superbly and flows well, and is Graphic in all its elements. Not sickeningly so, but with such depth of sympathy that the author must either have previous knowledge of such a subject or has done a terrific amount of research to achieve the description and feelings of the individuals. Duct tape takes on a whole new use also.
Too much back and forward , too much pretend hate . I didn’t get the whole falling in love process for these two characters. Kodiak and Lavender seemed to have imprinted on each other like birds rather than fall in love. Too much hatred that was under explained and then for him to be jealous and then their together. There were so much weird feelings between them that it was becoming hard to finish . Once they got together he ending came quite quick for which I was glad . The supporting characters were better then these two main characters and I’m hopeful we will see BJ and Maverick fall in love soon and that there is conclusion to Rivers love .
Little Lies is a incredibly powerful story that I don’t think I can do justice to. As Ms Hunting has beautifully and brilliantly woven a story that captures deep emotions, and delicately and with soul searing accuracy portrays mental health in a way that really makes you sit up and take notice.
From childhood trauma to the present Lavender and Kodiak's romance is not easy. But boy is it worth every angst filled, heartbreaking, raw moment, and with a fantastic supporting cast of old faces and new there wasn't a second of this story where I wasn't enthralled. And it's genuinely one of the best books I've read in 2020, and hands down I would recommend it to others. Even if you've not read the Pucked or All In series as Little Lies can easily be read as a stand alone.
There are some books that you pick up and immediately fall deeply and emotionally for the characters! This one hit harder than some as the characters are both flawed and perfectly perfect! They grow in strength and in personality as you read their story. Their lives are messy, full of mountains to climb and also full of love. Love that is hidden and protected. Lavender and Kodiak grow from children to soul mates who are both better together than they are apart! Sections of this book had me emotionally wrecked but the story itself was worth every tear, every smile and all the emotions that were rung from me whilst reading! This one will be giving me the monster of all book hangovers!
I loved getting to know Kodiak and Lavender not just as they became adults but by getting to see how their relationship blossomed from a young age. Reading as they interact at the start of the book and wondering how they can come back from whatever has happened kept me gripped and I couldn't put the book down. Admittedly there were a few points when I felt like I wanted to give Kody a good shake and he had me thinking he couldn't come back to what he was doing but both him and Lavender managed to worm their way into my heart and each others.
As a huge fan of the books previous to this under the name of Helena Hunting I kind of felt like I was watching as my friends kids were growing up. It was a strange feeling as I read about the kids of characters I have loved and to see that the kids are written so well that you are able to recognise traits as if they have come straight from their parents' characters made it all feel quite real and something I wanted more of. Although this was a step away from the more comedic and quirky books to a more angsty feel it was done seamlessly and the writing continued to be as good as expected.
